I'm good with either Monken or Leipold. I would probably not watch a game until after the Skip Holtz era at KU concludes.
It is hard for me not to care about and follow KU Sports, but a Holtz hire would very likely cause a ticket buying boycott from me.

I am still on Leipold being my clear first choice of the guys rumored.

If it is Leipold or Monken, I don't find either hire to be all that great, but it is fine considering the circumstances.

If Leipold/Monken are fine but not all the great, I would like to ask who would your ideal choice be? Within reason, we can't pick Nick Saban obviously, haha.

I am curious too.

Elko supposedly dropped out of consideration. Think he was 3rd choice anyway and Kansas looks good by interviewing him because he's going to be a HC within a couple of years.

I mean. Skip isn't going to get it, but he's not thaaatttt bad. 61-41 at LaTech and a 6-1 record in bowl games. But man, he hasn't been to a north state since 1998. Gross.
The problem is that there's nothing ascendant about a guy who had won 60 of 100 games at LaTech.

I just think there are a lot more quality candidates out there if the Miles era would have went more according to plan.

Monken is someone that has always been a candidate here and no promises he will figure out the offense thing. Leipold has some promise but obviously a risk with the lack of time on a P5 sideline.

Of the realistic choices, they are fine.

If we strike out on the Monken/Leipold-level candidates (seemingly unlikely at this point), then I'd rather go very young, boom/bust.

Yeah, you're not wrong in that aspect.

Give me the guy who went 43-21 over 5 years in comparison. And that's with a 5-8 season thrown in there.

Very ready! Everything I have been reading last night and this morning has me fired up for the season. Seems like this search has gone exactly the way Goff has wanted it to with his top two candidates in tact and everyone guessing which one it's going to be.

Aside from the football program, I am very encouraged about the athletic department as a whole with the reports that everyone came away from this process extremely impressed with Goff and the way he works.

Safe bet, assuming it's down to Monken and Leipold:

Whoever doesn't get the KU job will go on to be wildly successful at a power 5 school.

If it's Monken, Leipold is set up for some serious success at Buffalo this year. I read yesterday they return 18 starters. If Leipold coaches that team this fall, they could win 10+ games and he could have his pick from a long list of power 5 jobs.

And Leipold knows this. Which might be why Monken is the guy. We might not be the ones making the decision here.

That's a great point. If we hire Monken, it might not necessarily be because we picked Monken, it might mean Leipold said no because he knows he can parlay one more year in the MAC into a serious payday this fall.

Say if Purdue or Syracuse comes calling, Leipold is going to pick them over Kansas. I ultimately think Leipold will withdraw, go 9-3 and then get hired at one of those schools.

Agreed. I have spent a little time looking back at the Illinois coaching search after last season. Leipold and Monken were deep in the running for that job and they picked Bret Bielema. I think Leipold would have been a great fit at Illinois. It also speaks to how Goff has ran this search. He has two sitting head coaches interested down to the end and they are both great choices. He put himself in position to make a solid hire as long as one of those two say yes.

Right. I'm sure Liepold was genuinely interested in KU, if the conditions are right. If you know you're one year away from multiple P5 offers, you can require KU to back up the Brinks truck...and demand whatever you want. If they agree, great, you get your power 5 job a year sooner, if they don't you get a better gig in a year.

Purdue/Cuse: easier rebuilds, but KU fan expectations are super low. Would think KU will pay more, too. Tough choice if those are the options.
