Feral wrote: Tue Jun 20, 2023 10:57 pm It sounds like your problem is with the deal that was negotiated by a Trump-appointed US Attorney in Delaware, David Weiss, who said he had "ultimate authority over the matter", to decide "where, when, and whether to file charges". And, if the deal is so egregious, a federal judge, who I heard was also appointed by Trump, has to approve the deal, but can change it if s/he doesn't think it fits the charges.
Nah. My "problem" isn't with the deal. It's with the hippo-crits.
I agree with you that there are hypocrites on the board/s. I think anyone would be foolish not to agree with you.
I'm not sure if you include me in your hippo-crit label in regards to this thread and its subject/s.
Regardless, my thoughts/opinions.....
Different people. Different crimes.
Do I feel Hunter Biden got a break? Sure.
Do I feel if Donald Trump is guilty of what he's charged with he should face jail time? Sure.
Hopefully that doesn't make me a hippo-crit.

On a related note, I find it somewhat interesting that Joe hasn't really said much about the Hunter deal other than “I’m very proud of my son.” :?

did i miss something?

who here has said Hunter (or Joe or hill-dawg) shouldn’t be held accountable and prosecuted for their crimes?

i can think of no situation that is equivalent to trump’s, particularly since he remains defiant and insists (despite ample evidence to the contrary) that he’s done nothing wrong

if i’m forgetting something similar, i sure wish someone would elaborate rather than just being coy

Hunter Biden was mostly targeted as a means to discredit Joe Biden's likely successful presidential campaign. Russians likely thought he was an easy reach in case Rudy's planted evidence did not resonate. So there are tiers of justice in play. One party and a foreign power gamed the DOJ to target an American citizen because he was related to a Trump opponent. Jared and Ivanka, who self-dealed with China and middle eastern states are not being investigated for real crimes. Hunter Biden was punished for taxes he already paid.

Maybe a silly question, but…have any critics of Hunter’s deal actually shown, in factual, apples-to-apples comparisons, that Hunter is getting off easier than others?

DCHawk1 wrote: Tue Jun 20, 2023 10:04 pm Indeed, as McCarthy notes:

Biden apologists have tried to minimize that transaction as a “lie and try” case, which they say is often not prosecuted. But such non-prosecution (though it shouldn’t happen) occurs because of what you’d infer from the “try” part — i.e., the liar got caught and failed to obtain the gun. Hunter’s case, to the contrary, is a lie and succeed case. He got the gun. What’s more, he was then seen playing with it while cavorting with an “escort” (see the New York Post’s pictorial, if you’ve got the stomach for it). Shortly afterwards, he and his then-paramour — Hallie Biden, the widow of his older brother — managed to lose the gun near a school (it was later found by someone else).

Those are the kinds of gun cases that get charged by the Justice Department even if the suspect hasn’t, in addition, committed tax felonies by dodging taxes on the millions of dollars he was paid, apparently for being named Biden. Yet after refusing for years to appoint a special counsel despite the five-alarm conflict of interest attendant to investigating the president’s son ( . . . and family . . . and the president himself), the Biden Justice Department is permitting Hunter Biden to dispose of the case with misdemeanor tax charges that will allow for a probation sentence, and diversion — essentially, no prosecution — on the gun felony that would result in imprisonment for most Americans who engaged in similar conduct.
Yea, OK. Pretty sure that there are ample examples of rich, white non-Bidens who get similar sentences for poor handling of guns that end up not being used in any crimes and for not paying taxes that they ended up just paying late.

Even more ridiculous,

"Hunter Biden was charged with violating a provision of 18 U.S. Code § 922 that prohibits anyone “who is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance” from possessing a firearm"

How many times do you even SEE that charge made? Anyone see any other coked up rich white guys facing charges just for possessing a weapon they legally purchased and did not use to commit any crime? Half of Wall Street would be facing charges.
So...what yer sayin' is that you think the two-tiered justice system is pretty great.

Good to know.
Great? No. What I am saying is that the two tiered system isnt the Bidens/Dems on one side and everyone else on the other.

The two tiered Justice system in this country is those that can afford great legal representation and those who cannot.

MAYBE it's three, the rich, the regular and the poor.

True. Charge a 19 year old white kid and a 19 year old black kid with the same crime and the stats show that the black kid will on average get a harsher sentence as the tendency is to treat the white kid with a "don't want to mess up his future" mentality while the black kid gets more of a "gotta teach this kid a lesson" mentality like the assumption is that he has no future other than as a likely repeat offender.

and that’s assuming they’re equally likely to be arrested, charged, and then charged at an equal level/severity

Attorney General Merrick Garland responded to a question about the plea agreement Hunter Biden is expected to reach for two tax-related misdemeanors during a press conference in Stockholm, Sweden.

What does that even mean? Trump is a singularly corrupt menace with millions of enablers.

Pretty sure it's just called a specific, accurate example of the complaints being made. It's what non-delusional people do when they have a conversation.

So, what’ll the talking point be here? That this patriot is now a political prisoner because the corrupt Department of Injustice needed pretext for an unfair punishment for King Griftalot?
