Re: Weather
And Texas is so poorly-prepared for this (for good reason).
You could build a pretty strong list of lost causes by finding all the "what happened to global warming ha ha ha" posts.

Re: Weather
Yes. But I was reminded yesterday why winter driving in Minnesota (lived there for about five years) is actually significantly easier than here. Not only is the infrastructure better there, and the drivers more experienced/sensible, but also it's so goddamn cold that snow really isn't an issue.
Here in KC, the ground usually isn't this frozen, and the air usually isn't this frozen, so you end up with wet snow that gets icy. This super-cold dry stuff? Really not a big impediment to driving, so long as you exercise some common sense (and know how to downshift on hills).
Re: Weather
This stupid weather may well cost me a garage door. I can see more light than usual at the bottom of the door when closed, and the tracks/rails/whatever make a terrible screeching sound when it opens. Clearly the wood has contracted in the cold and it's pulling at the system.
Re: Weather
Maybe you just need to replace the tired rubber gasket at the bottom of the door?

Re: Weather
Screw type or chain opener? The bearings on the rollers can freeze impeding the glide of the door opening smoothly. Lightly oil or wait for warmth? Also, the spring tensioner hanging horizontally above the door could need adjustment. Of course, all of the above depends on how old the door and installation are.
Re: Weather
I just replaced both springs two weeks ago. I'll give WD-40 a shot. Or, give the door a few shots of WD-40.defixione wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 10:22 am Screw type or chain opener? Re: Weather
Id wait a while for warmer weather before getting too frustrated with it.
Just Ledoux it
Re: Weather
Also could take a torch and lightly and carefully and ..keyword, quickly, wsrm up the track and rollers, then grease after when it cools enough to accept it
Just Ledoux it
Re: Weather
That comes with all sorts of other problems (namely, lots and lots of things in the garage that are susceptible to freezing).
Re: Weather
Sure. Its not a great option. Just depends on how bad you need to be able to get out
Just Ledoux it
Re: Weather
I suppose another option is to leave a car out.

You should use this instead.

Re: Weather
I'll bet I should, but now I'm afraid to open my garage to leave. Haven't you been paying attention.

That's what she said.
