But, I don't see Self not starting Grimes, and I think I'd rather play two true bigs rather than have Garrett start at the 4.

Regardless, I think Garrett will be in at the ends of games.
Garrett or KJ should replace Grimes in the starting lineup but they probably won't. Grimes has been horrible all year and he's actually getting worse as the year goes on. His FG % over the last 8 games is 29%. He's not very good at anything else - driving, rebounding, defense, etc. so if he's not scoring, he really doesn't have much value. I know he needs to continue getting minutes so he can get better but once Garrett returns, it should no longer be in the 30's. If it were up to me, he would get about 15 to 20 minutes per game until he starts to show some improvement.
I’m as frustrated as anyone with how things have gone with Grimes, but I think you have to stay with him at this point. It’s in there...somewhere.
He doesn't look just completely lost out there anymore, which I guess is something.

Still not hitting shots, but he's finally taking the right shots. Baby steps, I guess, but I'm still hopeful for it click all of the sudden. Quite simply, it looks like he needs another year.

Relative to your average Bill Self scholarship player, that's not correct.

We've had guys like Cliff Alexander, Rio Adams, Naadir Tharpe, Brannen Greene, Conner Frankamp, Zach Peters, Sam Cunliffe, and the list goes on.....

He's a 1,000pt scorer.

I stand by the statement that he's helped us more than he's hurt us. Even relative to average scholarship players. We've had a lot of guys not do shit, or transfer, or get forced out, etc.

Tully's take on Vick: https://thebiglead.com/2019/02/18/the-c ... rald-vick/

As recently as Feb. 5, KU’s Dedric Lawson (also from Memphis) told reporters he expected Vick would be back with the Jayhawks before this season is over.

The way it looks now, the Jayhawks can’t risk it.

Vick is one of those guys. There are a lot less of those than the alternative.

The good Vick is great, the bad Vick is terrible.
Nobody knows what each game will bring.

Bill Self has had 13 scollies give or take every year for 15 years.
He's had 13 players score 1,000 points.

"Relative to your average Bill Self scholarship player, that's not correct."
Just so stupid.

Any guesses on how many he's given up?

Not any more than the average Bill Self scholarship player.
Again, Bill Self has had 13 1,000 point scorers.
If you have scored 1,000 points in your career, you are by definition better than your average scholarship player.

Bill has also had 20 or so players leave early to the pros.

Is that more or less than the number of guys he's kicked out of the program? I'll listen off air.

All I said was he's helped us more than he's hurt us for 3.75 years.

Up until this year he couldn't even hurt us tbh. We could withstand and survive any Vick antics because we had guys like Frank, Devonte, josh, Selden, svi, malik, etc to cover his ass...

He's a 1,000pt scorer. He's got a final 4 with a team that he started for and was a key piece of a deadly outside shooting 4 guard lineup.

Yup.
And some of those 1,000 point scorers are among them.
I don't have the time at the moment to prove it ( and I know ya'all are super against numbers because of your keen eye test stats ) but I would bet any and all my crimscore cash that he has better numbers than the average scholarship player.

15 Bill Self players in his coaching career have averaged more PPG in a season than Vick's senior year.

He's had a few really bad games this year.
He's had a few really really good games this year.
And now it's probably good that he's off the team if he's negative karma.

But to say he's hurt us more than he's helped us more than the average Bill Self scholarship player is pure stupidity.

I wouldn't put him in my top 30 or so players of the Self era, even with his scoring numbers....but he's helped more than he's hurt.

17, 1, 2, 10, 9, 16, 21, 5, etc.

He was a bench player in an elite 8 team. A rotation player on an elite 8 team. And a starter on a final four team.
