Here is what would happen.
“I’m not going to any of the events associated with this nor will I be around all day. I’m just gonna leave you with our kid and take off to see California.”
Pdub RIP 2023.

Definitely want to 99.
My guess is that, despite no kids at the rehearsal dinner, and then again the next day at the ceremony and reception, we'll need* to be around the hotel in the daytime to say hello to the rest of the family.
I bet they have some sort of lunch deal that Saturday that we'll need* to be at.
And then maybe a breakfast deal Sunday, also need* to be at.
*by need, I mean, highly pressured to the point of it not being worth all the drama that would come with not doing so
** also, I'm not against someone not wanting kids at their ceremony, and maybe even reception, ( i don't get rehearsal dinner ) but make that extremely clear the moment you send out save the dates - we would have read no kids at either event and would have just sent the ladies
I'm getting second hand frustrated here.
No. You dont need a suit, and if youb arent allowed to take your family to the wedding then you damn sure arent required to be present for any wedding associated events including dinners, brunches, pictures, etc.

As CR stated, however, I'm a surrender monkey.
I've since found out that the wedding/reception is NOT at the hotel and starts at 3 and goes til 10.
There'll be shuttle busses taking you from the hotel there.
This eliminates my appearances for that day ( Saturday ) so that's a sigh of relief ( despite the fact that I won't be getting free dinner/drinks at reception ).
Friday's rehearsal is from 6-8, no kids, but i'm being told, as a surrender monkey, that it's such a fancy event that I will need to bring a suit, so that I can, what, go down for 20 minutes ( of which if the bride/groom speak to me I will certainly mention my kid upstairs in the hotel room a few times ) for pleasantries and take a plate to go?
And TDub you make an extremely good point of which I forgot -- the pictures.
We'd better not have to be in them if we can't go to any events at the wedding.

If he had been united, everything would have been solved.
4 Flights back.
Smaller airbnb and car rental.
Passive aggressive statement delivered to family for not allowing our kids.
I couldn’t do it alone.

What would be more petty?
Buying the cheapest thing on the gift list or nothing at all?

Cheapest thing - if it's truly cheap (under $_____?) - would probably be more petty. To me.
I vote for nothing at all and if they have the balls to say something to you, tell them to get bent.
Flip side of all this is if they wanted to be even bigger assholes they could tell you - we didn't make you and your kids travel to attend our wedding. You should have declined the invitation if you are going to bitch (I say rightfully) about all of the inconveniences you are forced to endure.

Well the biggest blunder on them was first not mentioning that kids weren't allowed at either event before we bought the flights and told people we were coming. That's $1750 right there in flights and $600 lodging. And then even after that, saying, ok, no kids, just at the wedding, but don't worry, we'll have a sitter lined up that we know. And then after that saying, j/k, no kids, also no kids at the rehearsal dinner, good luck.
If we had known all of those things from the get go AND THEN still accepted the invitation and bought flights, for sure, they could rightfully say "we didn't make you and your kids travel..." and be justified.
I think if we had known these things I would have more leverage as a monkey boy to say, no, i'm not going, and to be honest, it'll be easier for everyone if I just keep the kid at home.
