that sucks, but they’re still gonna be better off with that equity in hand than if they’re someone who can’t afford to buy and only cross their fingers they can make rent.
One party has to liquidate an asset that lost value. One party is trying to avoid homelessness.
I dunno how so much much more sympathy is given to the ones with more wealth and power all along.
Its not equity if the prices are falling, you have no idea what they owe on the property. Why do you think you know every single landlords finances?
I don’t! I never said I did!
But just generally speaking, I think anyone who is in a position to own additional real estate in addition to their own home, is prob better off than someone who doesn’t
So...you don't want anyone to own or build property that they themselves aren't going to live in?
So, who's going to build all the apartments needed to house people if no one is going to profit from it? Do you build houses for others for free? Why would anyone else do it?
This is like getting upset at restaurant owners because there are people who can't afford food.

You don’t need a restaurant to eat.
You do need a roof over your head to be housed.
And yes, perhaps I need to figure out just what I’m trying to discuss.
But it’s difficult when I’m forced to take the defensive, so many of you guys resort to name calling and putting words in my mouth, all while insisting *I’m* the one being unreasonable.

Ousdahl: you sound batshit crazy in this thread right now.
Homelessness is an issue we all can agree on. But Homelessness isn't caused by rich people buying vacation homes.
You're pissed that you desire to live in an area that you can't afford to live in. I sympathize with that. I want to play at tons of golf courses that i can't afford to be a member at. So I play where I can afford to play.
If you really feel I’m so crazy - and again, bummer - but ignore is always an option. Or just don’t respond to my posts!
And I’d like to point out the bolder part is precisely the issue in my community, but I’d prob get accused of moving goalposts again.
And again bold, but I don’t think homelessness is quite as agreeable as you suggest.

No, because its only once every couple weeks when you go in your weird, battle walks propped up by your reddit army. Some of your takes are insane.....and you refuse to acknowledge that YOU might be the one who is off on the particular topic...its allllll of the world thats wronged you specifically.

Im not sure landlording is a “profession.” Is it?
It’s just a peculiar way to make a living. But the only way a landlord becomes a landlord is if they came into some money or real estate in the first place.
And there seems to be little pride in it. While most professionals want to be the best in their respective fields, landlords are often basically playing chicken with actually taking care of the properties that make them a living.
They could do it the same way as anyone else in any other business.
They could borrow money, find investors, have some startup capital, start small and grow, etc. etc. etc.
You seem upset with some specific landlords. This is getting into Lobster angry at all Tow truck territory though.

You do NOTHING to house others...so why is a landlord morally obligated to house someone for free, or at a loss, or at cost, or at less than the market dictates.
In what world do we turn to the landlords to solve problems of homelessness and poverty? Do you think sanitation workers are obligated to solve our gloval environmental issues as well.
Landlords own or develop properties to rent to other people. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with that. They actually ARE putting roofs over peoples heads, you just don't like the manner in which they'er doing it.

I can definitely sympathize with that. It snowballs. Don't feel like you have to defend all of your posts. I know you mean well.

Shit, if you can’t beat em, join em.
I’m interested in a career change. I wanna be a professional landlord!
In lieu of a School Of Landlording, I guess I’ll just have to seek investors.
Who wants to buy property and have me manage it for you??

Yeah, but that tweet comparing landlords to ticket scalpers was pretty clever.
Gotta love a clever tweet.

Do it then. Go get enough capital together that a bank will lend to you and rent it out for free.

This is a lot like your claim that CEOs have no responsibility or stress and just golf all day.
Its not based in reality.

This is actually a very common thing.
And where you live probably pretty profitable.
Lots of people with vacation homes that would love to rent them 11 months out of the year, but need someone locally to manage the property.
I went to grad school with a girl, she wasn't wealthy and lived with her mom during school, but she owned her own home, didn't want to sell it, so she (gasp) rented it. There was a management company who she paid a % of the rent to every month to deal with the property.

I don't care if you move the goalposts.
I don't want to put you on ignore.
You live in a place with a high cost of living. It is a tourist area. It goes with the territory. Unfortunately as places grow and become more popular cost of living goes up.
I would imagine many of the jobs for residents in the area are hospitality and tourism related, which aren't always well paying.
I looked at housing in your area when you mentioned something a few weeks ago about where you live... it's insane. I would never choose to live there and pay that much for a small condo. No thanks.
Illinois would love to have you. Relatively low cost of living as long as you stay away from Chicago.

So they should just give their house away?
You're talking about a very very small and incredibly specific group of people who, can't afford a home, but suddenly could if only the market dipped slightly due to people not buying vacation homes.

No really!
My boss is effectively retired, does whatever he wants all day, only “works” when he’s interested in getting his say, and it’s all his prerogative to do so cuz he’s the one with the capital.
Do you wanna argue he shouldn’t?
