The chances of the NCAA and p5 schools throughout the PAC10 unsuccessfully lobbying Newsome are very very low. Cute this idea made it through the CA chambers but it aint goin nowhere--as it shouldn't. There are a lot of problems with amateurism but just let the kids who can profit off their shit go pro. Hell go pro when you're 12 years old for all i care. Just get rid of the dumb laws forcing kids to be in school.

If your "forcing kids to be in school" is about kids playing NCAA hoops, there are no laws forcing them to play in college. They are free to go play overseas or to sit around their house working out if they'd rather.

NCAA kindly asks California to not pass legislation that would pull the plug on their hustle

I mean, I don't like the NCAA, but if they passed this, and it was against NCAA regulations, then they could just suspend the schools who did it from playing in the NCAA.

Not to mention, loose all the Cali schools and markets?

So...the NCAA's argument is that the governor of California should veto the bill because the change would give California schools a competitive advantage?
The solution here is pretty simple.

I hope, for the sake of the sport, that there’s a group within the NCAA that realizes the jig is up. I don’t know if it will be one year or five, but N/I/L and other athlete-friendly moves (like unfettered access to representation) are coming. It’s adapt or die time for the NCAA, and the wheels are already in motion.

Saw a headline that an NY senator was going to propose a bill "requiring" schools to pay athletes. Interested to see how that gets worded to differ from full rides and other stipends.

I wish people would just depart from the "schools should pay athletes" thing. While, arguably, they should, it gets nightmarishly complicated from a tax/labor/Title IX standpoint.

Fish you keep acting like there is a lot of outside money interested in college athletics. And. Well. Umm.

The NCAA is specifically targeting Kansas to make up for its weak image.

NCAA is already punishing Kansas on the recruiting trail.

The good (good? less-bad?) news is that Bill has proven he can do excellent things with relatively lower-tier guys.
That said - a 3-4 year guy should be the kind of guy most scared off by what's going on.
