thousands of mail-in ballots in tejas being returned to senders
utah legislature considering limiting mail-in voting, despite more than a decade’s worth of successful elections and minuscule evidence of any irregularities

Why were they being returned to senders? Was there a specific reason?

Two words: voter suppression. Another two words should lead you there: Occam’s Razor.
Very simple really. Republicans know that if more people vote they will lose. Note that all the shenanigans are happening in Red States.

Seems that the vast majority are because of a new rule in Texas that requires the ID # to be filled out in a new field that matches up to the ID# provided in registration and in the request for a mail in ballot.
The ID is printed under the flap of the envelope and people aren't seeing it.

This is one of the main reasons the QOP is panicking. Texas is getting real close to turning blue.
Making up those 38 votes is very difficult and maybe impossible

The tide is not in the QOP's favor either, between a growing Latinx population (although that population is not as hard-blue as you'd expect), and the effects of trying so hard to attract tech to Austin. Yes, the hyper-rich might be red, but the workforce is going to be generally blue.

Yep. Another issue is age. The old staunch republicans are dying and being replaced by younger (more likely to lean left) voters

Absolutely.
We're where we've been for a while now: a race between GOP fuckery and time.

how anyone can see such efforts as anything other than a flavor of voter suppression is beyond me

A Washington jury on Tuesday found Guy Wesley Reffitt guilty on all five counts relating to his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol, verdicts that could land him in prison for decades.
Well, he got the jury trial he wanted anyway.
