I was thinking about this the other day...does anyone recall what UNC's 'crootin rankings were when they had the academic scandal cloud hanging over them?
Three scenarios I can think of why this years class has been a miss along with missing out on other players thought to be KU favorites.
1. NCAA drama
2. Self and his staff have lost the touch
3. Self is moving on and can't lie to kids when asked about his own commitment level
UNC built it up around guys ranked in the 30's to 50's and they stuck around. Justin Jackson and Isaiah Hicks were big time recruits for their natty team. But the Joel Berry, Brice Johnson, Kennedy Meeks of the world were around 30's-40's

19/20 Lineup Guess:
Starters:
Dotson
Grimes
Ochai
Hurt
McCormack
Bench:
Cassius Stanley
KJ
Moore
Mitch
That's an.... ummmmm… average lineup..
Wut? If it's this ( you forgot Garrett ) we are kinda stacked imo.
That's a top 10 team.

I dont see Stanley coming to KU unless Grimes leaves. He isn't coming here to sit on the bench.

Dok not top 100, why would he leave? Europe?

Or Asia, South America or Australia.
Self's not expecting him back. And as much as we missed Udoka this year, I don't think it's a good idea any longer to plan on having him for the whole year and build your team with that in mind.

What's the drop for Grimes?
Top 10 to barely top 100?
Yikes.

Dok might be better off going pro, and we might be better off as well. Can't afford to have a 3rd season where he gets hurt and we have to scramble.

4th season.

Dok's a young junior.
If he wants to come back we should welcome him with open arms ( that probably won't fit around him because he's 7 foot 280 lbs ).
Regardless of injury history, he's a force in college when he's active.

Right, I meant that if he get's hurt for a 3rd time, that would be a 3rd season season where we had to adjust. I know next year is his 4th, and we've only had 1 year where has not been injured.

He missed several games last year. De Sousa saved us.

Ah, I didn't count that. But yeah, he's just highly injury-prone.

Of course he can come back if he wants to. If Bill let Lagerald come back, then it's hard to imagine a scenario in which he wouldn't let ANY senior-to-be come back.
But that doesn't mean that it's in his interest or ours.

He only missed the Big 12 Tourney. And didn't Self say that had it been the NCAA Tourney, he would have been likely to at least suit up?

I’d be very thrilled if our returning guys somehow improve over the summer and comeback acting like they enjoy basketball.
Last fall I thought Dok would be able to shoot free throws, Garrett would be able to make threes, Vick would eliminate mistakes, and Lightfoot wouldn’t miss defensive assignments. None of that proved to be the case. I’m just being pissy now but, those assistant coaches should put their cellphones down and hit the gym with the boys (not to exceed the maximum time allowed by the NCAA).
Again, it would be great for the returning guys to make progress before next fall (looks at Garrett, Grimes, etc).

I can't recall on that last part, but he wasn't the same guy in the tourney as he was all year. You have to take that into account.
I like Udoka, but there is a rather poor chance that he is in good form for next year's tournament.

I thought about that, too, but seems so un-Selflike. Maybe his injury would keep him out until then, anyway.
