There is a campground at Penitente Canyon that is close by and there is plenty of room to camp for free in the BLM land surrounding that. The nearest town with a hotel/motel is Monte Vista. Rooms get filled up that time of year so plan ahead. You can sleep in your car so long as you park in an alley. But the police will roust you if you try to park your car on Worth Street overnight.

The festivities will start about 10:00 AM on Saturday, if you show up the night before there will undoubtably be a pre-party in the Spud Lounge on Friday night. Look for lights and listen for music.

Years from now, you will be able to say you were at the first Solstice.
There are a number of airbnbs that are close, and of course, my backyard if you want to pitch a tent.

Saturday is the collage party and awards ceremony. Our poet laureate will read this year's haiku and there may be a movie at the drive in.

The party Saturday night will probably go late. Sunday morning we will likely meet up at the Sunflower Cafe and then the clean up begins.

There might be time to visit my secret trout stream before we leave town after the event.

Believers keep on believin'
Sleepers just stop sleepin'
Cause it won't be too long

Gonna keep on tryin'
Till I reach my highest ground
No one's gonna bring me down
Oh no
Till I reach my highest ground

You need a few Texans there to bring Whataburger breakfast taquitos.

Hey, Japhy, won't some of the yurts at the drive-in be available to rent by then?

Maybe, when I drove by last week they were making good progress. But in conversations they still aren't sure. I think it is the water and sewer infrastructure that is the bottleneck for them.

I have been having a running conversation with Ron for the last two days. If you show up for Solstice you might get to meet him. We are discussing a possible project in or near town. The concept is to print a capsule out of mud that would allow you to have an immersive experience of being in space, floating among the stars. I doubt it can be completed in time for Solstice but there has been talk about a demonstration of the 3D printing technology.

Come on Wally, you know you wanna see this shit.

I’m making one bong that’s 10,000 times as big.

Btw can one of you guys light it for me? Cuz now the part you put the weed in is like 10,000 feet away

The metaphor used today was, "sticking a straw into the sun". That ought to be warm enough for combustion of organic material.

There was a curator on the line today. At the end of the conversation he said he would like us to put together a proposal so he could take it to his "stakeholders". That sounds fuckin serious.

Wally, I am out of my league here.

Dude help me out; what's a stakeholder?

I am not a vampire; but should I be afraid?

There was talk today of a VIP PreParty for Solstice to be hosted by the Town. The rest of us shitbags probably don't qualify, but Wally I will get your name on the list.

We are weeks into a scheduled on-going virtual conversation. We meet every Tuesday at 10:00 AM CST. Last week, one of the three conversationalists was missing. Ron texted me to let me know he was heading to the east coast and we could talk later so he can get caught up on what he missed. This morning he was back in and he brought us up to date on what sort of shit he was up to last week.

When he told me where this thing was installed it made me laugh.

I think we can be drinking buddies.

Wally, if you come to Solstice I will introduce you. I am sure the two of you will be fast friends.

The Empire is getting an horno. A guest chef showed up last week. We toured a haunted Ute Agency building in the afternoon and later after a demonic possession was cleared up by tossing the bastard off the Lobato Bridge, the chef cooked a meal on an horno under the stars and much tequila and pork and chilis and tortillas were consumed.

We all agreed, there needs to be an horno built in the Empire so that we don't have to sleep it off in the dirt around a campfire afterwards. We could crawl home if it was at the drive-in.

It wouldn't be a party without a circus. Confirmed for Solstice.

I talked to Owen Trujillo over the weekend. We have our first band confirmed for Solstice. Some of the band members grew up in the Empire.

I picked up the band uniforms yesterday afternoon. The Espiritu del Sol will officially start taking applications today.

We will march at the Solstice!

Band practice will be on the morning of the show.
