Just saw that Deshaun Watson's book is number 10 in Christian Self Help category (sorry, my library isn't open). I think all threads on this board should focus on helping out Christians.
I think you're referring to the Royals board.

Perhaps the issue then is, we need to make the fight for unity a unity issue.

Cuz the ones saying “not here for politics” are ironically the ones framing it as a political issue, and also seem to be the ones who want to dismiss it.

Imma use this as a cop out for everything from now on. “Come on officer, so what if I was driving 30 mph over, let’s just quit making this about politics mmmkay ?”

It isn't a reason to dismiss civil rights.
It is a reason, if one doesn't like politics mixing with sports, to not like sports as much anymore, or, if they are running a message bored, to keep conversations/threads in the appropriate categories so that, pray tell, another poster who doesn't agree with a majority stance on this bored, can still discuss what the bored's intention is about, which is Kansas sports.

Welp, so much for setting politics aside and just trying to unite folks.

“Come on officer, so what if I was driving 30 mph over, let’s just quit making this about politics mmmkay ?”

Not a good analogy.

It would be more like the officer pulls you over for speeding and while he's writing you a ticket, he makes you listen to him explain why he believes officers across the USA are underpaid and that they are not prejudiced against a particular race, and doesn't give you the ticket until he feels he's said what's on his mind.

Did I even finish posting that?

And it was intentionally a bad analogy.

But let’s recap in real time:

Two sports teams make a good faith gesture calling for unity.

Rather than even consider the merits of a call for unity, certain fans dismiss the call on political grounds, then fuss that the real tragedy is it’s making them enjoy sports less.

The real tragedy is the friends we've made along the way.

If inferring me as 'certain fans' then no, no tragedy, just bummed and exhausted of the last year or so.
You look forward to getting a break from it and then there's no break.
Like going on a mountain/nature drive where there didn't used to be billboards and now there's billboards.

Yeah, but one of those billboards advertised for an anti-human trafficking campaign, so I guess you support human trafficking now.
I only came to kick some ass...

Rock the fucking house and kick some ass.

I don’t mean to single you out pwhitt.

But generally, speaking, a message of unity should have been something bigger and better and rising beyond “the last year or so.”

But instead, certain folks had to drop a big squishy turf in the unity punch bowl.

It wasn’t divisive, until divisive folks made it so. Motherfuckers booing unity. Unity!

It takes a whole population to unite a country, but only a few assholes to divide it.
