Very glad DeBord and Eliot are gone.

Probably about right when you look at their being 10 assistants. Probably retaining 2 or 3 guys. Sucks but part of the beast.

He'll probably bring 3 or 4 guys from Buffalo. Retain a couple guys and then hire nationally for the last couple.

This is such a boring hire.

Good.

I didn't know where you were going there when I ended the first sentence.

It's like I said. It's the safest probably most effective hire. Monken might have gotten you to some better recruits and maybe a bit higher ceiling, but Leipold seems to be the safest, easiest bet.

And what you saw during his presser seems to be how he is all the time. Direct, few words, kind of assuming, but from everything I've heard behind the scenes, he's a hardass with some great attention to detail.

Hoping it is exactly what we need. Just a no nonsense guy that runs a tight ship and makes his staff and players work their asses off.

What stuck out to me about the presser was how few journalists were there. Mellinger was the biggest name and most everyone was from Lawrence with a few KC sprinkled in. No buzz around this program or hire right now. That's fine with me if it works out.

I do know there were some small group interviews going on. I didn't hear Newell at all during big presser, but know he talked with him afterwards, wonder if someone like Dodd did the same.

Ya know, I've thought about this a lot recently, is there a state smaller than Kansas that has 2 P5 programs. Probably not. It's really tough to recruit when the state you reside in only pumps out a handful of P5 talent every year.

Like we think this was not great, I bet Kleiman at kstate was worse. Absolutely no media coverage within 2 hours of that place.

The only comparable places by population would be Mississippi, Iowa, and Oklahoma. Kansas has the smallest raw population number of those states, but it might need to be considered that so much of the KC Metro is in Missouri.

But then add on the fact that Kansas tends to have very subpar high school talent and very restrictive rules for high school sports development.

Whoa. Unfortunately looks like we're welcoming back Ianello.

For the record, here are those guys' roles at Buffalo:

Ianello - Interim HC/Recruiting Coordinator
Borland - DC/Safeties coach
Kotelnicki - OC/WR coach
Simpson - Co-DC/LBs coach
Zebrowski - Co-OC/QBs coach
Fuchs - OL coach
Ontalu - DE coach/Special teams coordinator

Eh. I hope Buffalo hires Ianello.

But, that suggests Jones is gone.

Unless some roles change, bringing both Ianello and Kotelnicki would assume the WR position is taken care of. This does look like it could be good news for keeping Chevis Jackson.

I didn't get a great feeling that Jones would be back after the presser.

Bright side is that Kotelnicki and Zebrowski are coming.

Jones leaving opens the door for player exodus, which hurts the roster, restores the never ending "bad roster" excuse, which continues the, "you gotta give this guy a few years to re-build this roster, you can't expect any wins for 5+ years" narrative.

Not sure how it's gonna happen, but we'll only have 13 scholarships to give out in 2022.
