Scott drew must be a pretty good coach for the sports media to respect his program enough to have him start the year tied with self and the defending Champs

baylor has been one of the top programs in the whole country these last 5-10 seasons.

if we suddenly found ourselves with a coaching vacancy. hcsd would most certainly be on our short list.

Even if Scott Drew did not suck, he would not be on KU's list.

1 unc
2 zags
3 houston
4 uk

5. Kansas (34-6)

Points: 660. Last year’s final ranking: 1.

The defending national champions are reloading under coach Bill Self, who is replacing six key players. Forward Jalen Wilson (11.1 ppg, 7.4 rpg) returns as the team’s most talented player and Big 12 Player of the Year candidate following a strong finish last season. Point guard Dajuan Harris Jr. (5.4 ppg, 4.2 apg) is more experienced and ready to lead a team with key newcomers like freshman guard Gradey Dick. Versatile senior Kevin McCullar Jr. (10.1 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 3.1 apg) also transferred from Texas Tech. They lack the traditional center to dominate, but Self is a master at adjusting to his roster. Wilson’s development into the go-to guy will be key. The Jayhawks should again be national title contenders.

6 scott drew sucks
12 ut
16 tcu
24 tech

I feel like the national media is more bullish on this year's team than the fan base is.

We're too close. We see what we've lost.

National media realizes everyone took losses (except UNC/UK).

Media also understand we retained Self, which retaining the coach is no longer a given.

That said, I still think this is a 3 seed-y type team.

just so many new pieces, and older pieces that’ll be taking on bigger roles and scoring loads

outside of DH and JW, i’m not really sure what to expect

And, for me, these might be the two biggest question marks. Role player to star or even go-to player is often the most difficult jump.

If we have a bunch of role players (with McCullar and Dick), it will be a nice, gritty team, but not a contender.

I wonder if we’ll see more of the posting up a wing, like we did from time to time last year with Och and CB.

Could Jalen/KM/Dick et al get to a spot where they seal their man and catch a feed in rhythm downhill?

definitely some truth there

i guess i just default to last year’s production as an assumption of their respective floors. i doubt either regresses

it’d be pretty shitty if this squad ended up with same narrative of 2021…great role players but no star

I think it's more similar to 2021 than we'd like. But, the pieces this season should fit together a little better, i.e. not having to play McCullar (Garrett) at PG.

I think the downside is there, though, in that this team could be another good defensive team that can't score, like 2021 and 2015.

edit: I'd also be shocked if Dick and Rice weren't better than what Thompson and Grant-Foster were in 2021.

My concern is the lack of experience playing together for Self. Self's two championship teams both returned four starters. They executed so well as a team moving the ball on offense and playing great team defense.

This team has good enough talent, they're fast, they're deep. But I am concerned some about the ball sticking, I'm worried about team defense despite having good individual defenders, I'm worried about not having a guy who can consistently hit a hook shot down low, and I'm concerned about the three point shooting.

Oh wow. That's a lot of concerns.

I do think some coaches would fit this team better. Notably ones that pressure and like playing 10 guys. Speed and quality depth are the biggest strengths.
