The Travel Thread
Re: The Travel Thread
If everything is 10/10 and A+ then nothing is. Those are rookie scores.
Re: The Travel Thread
As someone who has spent the better part of 18 months in Como (I have spent at least one week every month between October 2016 and May 2018, except Aug) only A+ recommendations made it here. Trust me, there’s more than your share of awful restaurants in Como (the quality of the food is inversely proportional to the length of the menu). Glad to hear that my experience could be replicated.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 3:32 pm If everything is 10/10 and A+ then nothing is. Those are rookie scores.

you’re trying to reason with a guy that’s 1) never been out of the country, and 2) doesn’t see much difference from one pizza joint to the nextzsn wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 4:31 pmAs someone who has spent the better part of 18 months in Como (I have spent at least one week every month between October 2016 and May 2018, except Aug) only A+ recommendations made it here. Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: The Travel Thread
Stalkers gonna stalk. Gotta love the rockstar knee slide by trad to save the day for his buddy cascadia. In the words of cascadia are you ous and cascadia the new buttercream gang?
Lots of difference between 1 pizza joint to the next. Weird comment. But all pizza is pretty good imo. I have rarely had "bad" pizza. But big difference between good and great.
Those are rookie scores though.

Happy hunting Trad. I'm not taking the bait. Maybe someone else will entertain your endless desire to argue (usually about nothing) with strangers on the internet.

I’ve been here 6 days and reviewed, what, a handful of places? Anyone with half a brain would realize I’ve been to several places (the majority) that are not 10/10 or A+.
But, illy got to illy…….
Re: The Travel Thread
Kind of like ranking 10/10 A+s for everything, if you classify everyone as a "troll" who you don't like, or call everything a "tantrum", it really losses its luster.

This thread has lost it's luster.
Re: The Travel Thread
I'm goin' on my first trip not in Maine or Kansas in two years in a few weeks to the Outer Banks.
Fam usually goes annually but, well, you know.
Haven't seen much of this part of the fam since then.
Excited for lounging at pool, beach, grillin', chillin'.

Heading to a Tuscany today after spending 3 nights in Monterosso Al Mare (Cinque Terre)
Definitely a beautiful spot but a little slow and not a lot to do. The hike between towns (only half of it open) was a little underwhelming. But, that may be because I’m spoiled due to where I live. This is the birthplace of pesto so I had that with almost every meal. Very good stuff. We also took the boat to each town, stunning scenery to say the least. This region is only worth a day trip and a one night stay unless you’re old (retired) or on a romantic trip. Neither applies to me.
Had an Italian Grape Beer (IGA) in Corniglia. If you try one, get a small, it’s not great.
Also had the worst meal of the trip here. Pasta Monterosso - Spaghetti with capers, anchovies, olives, oregano, tomato sauce. Would not recommend.

Re: The Travel Thread
We had three meals between Moterosso and Vernazza. I have to agree that they were by far the most underwhelming meals in Italy.
Not to belabor Illy’s original complaint but I’ve literally had at least one meal at just about every restaurant in Como. While my preference may not be in tune with others the top recommendations of mine will at least be a 9+ for most people
Re: The Travel Thread
As long as your 9+s have a decimal then you're in the clear with me. Round numbers or multiple 10s (a 10 is acceptable for the single best meal of your life though) are rookie scores.zsn wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 2:50 pmWe had three meals between Moterosso and Vernazza.
