And logic tells us people need jobs to eat...

We can and should as a society take care of everyone who was asked not to work during the pandemic. We could have and should have done a better job of it than we did, instead we gave $500 billion dollars to bail out corporations and told people to live on $1200 (or less in many cases).

Logic also tells us that lost income can be replaced with a stroke of the pen in a country with tax revenue and a 20 trillion dollar GDP.
Logic tells us a viral pandemic can’t just be hoped away.

Yes, there is a treatment for lack of money.
There was no treatment for Covid when this started and still none that are great.

Everyone is glossing over the most pertinent point:
Groceries: essential
Teeth emergencies: essential
Walrus tusk cleaning/whitening: not close to essential
Making a living = essential. Period.
Completely false.
How do you figure? Who's going to pay your bills and put food on your table?

Doing QE in the short term may work, but we all know it cannot last.
The real question is, who on here should have the right to decide which business should remain closed? No one.

There was no treatment for Covid when this started and still none that are great.
The most frustrating part is that it was not hard to see a plan that could be put in place that would mitigate the damages of the overall public health, the economy, and the public, particularly those that would be unfortunately but undoubtedly unemployed. Especially and because there were a couple of months of test cases to look at.
Being upfront from the beginning on the length of stay-at-home orders, the time needed to social distance at public places, an honest price tag to help the unemployed, we could have done much less damage that is being done. To everything including the economy and unemployed.
But, alas, America and it's big ego got in the way. And then the remedy was to give the money to the "people" that need it the least.

Well, we don't know that.

I'm in a severe thunderstorm warning. The government just announced on the radio to take shelter in an interior room. Fuck that, they can't tell me what to do. I won't live in fear. I don't trust the government to predict the weather. Thunderstorm...more like thunderplan, I'm no dupe, they just want to control my actions for the upcoming political coupe. I'll be outside waving a metal stick over my head. Cause by God, I'm a 'Murican.

Go hug a flagpole. That’s the most Murican thing to do in a thunderstorm. Show your patriotism!! Teach electricity who’s boss!

I think there may be some small difference between meteorologists, who often only care about protecting people from the dangers of weather vs. former investment bankers who could care less about informing the average Joe about a recession coming. Just sayin.

Money comes and goes.
Life just goes.
Problem being, money is necessary to purchase food and shelter. Without them, life also goes. Balance, grasshopper.
