Not the greatest footage in the world, but this article makes a good attempt to break down the critical moments before Kyle shot the first guy, and determine who provoked whom.
Neither prosecution nor defense really asked exactly when Kyle raised his gun, apparently, for fear it would hurt their argument.
But it seems Kyle sees this Zimiski dood with a gun - not raised or pointed, but just in possession?
When Kyle sees the guy with the gun, he drops a fire extinguisher and raises his gun into both hands so it’s up and parallel to the ground, and possibly points it at Zimiski.
Zimiski then yells something like “get him!”
Only after that does he see Rosenbaum.
There’s questions of exactly when Kyle pointed, or first pointed, his gun at Rosenbaum. Is it right away? Is it after he’s chased for a bit? Can he first point it at someone then claim self-defense about someone else? At what point does that self-defense become provocation?
And in a sense, there’s quite an irony at play here, whether Kyle was allowed to panic at the sight of someone else with a gun; then under the same circumstances of seeing someone with a gun, whether Rosenbaum was instead expected to remain calm.

If choosing to be an armed chaos tourist and then shooting three people isn't a crime, we have stupid laws.

Yea.
It’s pretty wild how many law and order types are so quick to normalize this.
I wonder what the reception would be if he was at any other public gathering.
And at any other public gathering, he’d likely have a more legitimate reason to be there, than he had to be in Kenosha.

given what we’ve been finding out about “law and order” types, it probably shouldn’t be all that surprising

Because
"they're comin' for ma gunzzzz!!!" has taken on a life of its own, as a culture war totem.
And of course, this trial is no more about the second amendment (or even self-defense) than Texas SB8 is really about unborn children, or voter IS is really about preventing fraud.
It's all of a piece.

Yeah, this was def politicized from the moment it happened. Heck, in many ways it happened precisely because of how politicized it had become.
And because there’s so many who view Kyle as being on their side (white kid, gun fetish, with the vigilante mentality but only as it pertains to the BLM boogeyman)
I wish we could isolate the situation from all that and asked, how would you feel to have random civilians from lord knows where marching around your neighborhood pointing guns?

um, it’s already this way in 21 states (legal open carry)…11 of those require no permit (aka no firearms training whatsoever)

Not just carrying, but raising and even pointing weapons
And not just happening to carry as you go about other business, but carrying (and raising) explicitly cuz you decided that neighborhood needs you as some paramilitarized presence.
And if someone else has a gun out there, they better be ready for you to raise yours in response
…or, we could just call that shit some kinda terrorism.

Meh, short of a cushy Fox News correspondent gig, he’s not likely to ever make pink polo in a gated community kinda money
In all likelihood he’ll become a cop, and be making like 30k a year to keep shooting unarmed victims, but just get desk duty out of it rather than have to deal with those pesky criminal trials any more

Nah, he will end up being a second- or third-tier Q-adjacent social media influencer. The sort of person who always gets bottom billing - but is always at - CPAC and various things.
And he’ll make millions for it. No one ever went broke, and so on.
