Me too. Literally burned through eight consonants for the first and third letter. Bastards.

I was down to three possibilities and happened to pick the right one. I don’t know how else to have played it

Knowing which letters are NOT in the answer are almost (but not) as valuable as knowing which ones are in the answer. How soon you forget Tuesday when many did not solve at all for not using their guesses to eliminate letters.

That's exactly what I did Tuesday, there were just more possible correct answers than guesses.

By the third guess I narrowed it down to _O_ER. There were at least 5 words where the consonant combination was not ruled out: LOVER, MOWER, BOXER, FOYER, JOKER but only three guesses remaining (other words like sober, power, cover, boner, rover, loser, loner, hover etc could be eliminated due to one or more letters being ruled out)

So it was the Y that got you. Had you had the Y, I think you would have gotten it. If I recall correctly, Boyer was not an allowable guess.

If I put FLAKY as my fourth guess I could have got it in 5. Hindsight!
