Wonder if there has been a steady increase in bullying in areas that didn't vote for trump also. Recently. And over the last 10+ years.....my guess is, yes.
That question was answered in the article: "Seventh- and eighth-graders in areas that favored Trump reported bullying rates in spring 2017 that were 18 percent higher than students living in areas that went for Clinton. They were also 9 percent more likely to report that kids at their schools were teased because of their race or ethnicity.
In the 2015 data, there were "no meaningful differences" in those findings across communities, the researchers wrote.
...
Huang, an associate professor of education, says the overall stable number fits with the state-level findings from his research with Cornell: While bullying rates in areas of Virginia that voted Republican went up in 2017, rates went down in places that favored Clinton."

Libtards picking on the poor oppressed conservatives.
We are talking about school bullying. I don't know about you, but I didn't affiliate with a politcal party when I was 11.
School bullying has been on the rise since the social media wave came in. It's 24/7 now instead of from 8-3:10 lIke back in your day when you had to walk uphill both ways to school.
I mean maybe only conservatives name-call and bully (what the article was about), but if this website is any indication then I feel confident saying liberals also name-call and bully.
The CDC findings disagree with you: "These findings come at a time when school bullying rates nationally have remained relatively flat, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."

My only experience with this in regards to the election was that my niece in KC came home the day after the election in tears because several of the boys in school were telling a friend of hers, who is Hispanic, that "ha, ha, now you're going to get deported" and she was sad that she thought her friend was going to have to leave the country.
Kids suck.

"SINCE THE SOCIAL MEDIA WAVE CAME IN"
That quote says NOTHING about that time line from say what 2005ish? until now.
Your reading comprehension is as awful as mine.

The CDC report was a study from 2007-2017. I assume that covers the time you are spazzing out about and that you didn't actually go look at it, correct? My reading comprehension is just fine.
https://www.cdc.gov/healthyyouth/data/y ... report.pdf
- The percentage of students who were threatened or injured with a weapon at school decreased significantly from 2007 (7.8%) through 2017 (6.0%).

- The percentage of high school students who were electronically bullied did not change significantly from 2011 (16.2) through 2017 (14.9).
- The percentage of students who were bullied at school did not change significantly from 2009 (19.9) through 2017 (19.0).
- The percentage of students who were ever forced to have sex did not change significantly from 2007 (7.8) through 2017 (7.4).
- The percentage of students who experienced physical dating violence decreased significantly from 2013 (10.3%) through 2017 (8.0%).
- The percentage of students who experienced sexual dating violence decreased significantly from 2013 (10.4%) through 2017 (6.9%).

You know absolutely nothing about social science research (big shock!) At best, the CDC findings demonstrate correlation, not causation.

How are we definining bullying. Because what is condidered bullying now was totally acceptable 20 years ago. Thats going to throw off any comparisons in percentage rates.

I somewhat disagree. It's less physically damaging but it seems like it could be more emotionally damaging.
When someone is physically bullied, only the people who are eyewitnesses see it and it's pretty rare for someone to join in and pile on.
Now when kids are cyberbullied, EVERYONE they know usually sees it and its much more likely for someone to throw their own comment on the fire. It seems like it can escalate to "everyone is against me" a lot quicker with how electronically connected all the kids are to each other.
Maybe my 15 year old just has a great group of friends but they police themselves very well. If someone makes a comment that seems to be of a bullying or "mean girl" nature, there is always someone calling that person out.
It's way more accepted for her generation to call that shit out now than it was (frankly than it IS) for my generation. I can see why the studies are showing year over year declines in bullying.

i was more referring to fave-to-face bullying, by peers and classmates...vs being bullied on social media
not even considering actual physical bullying, which is a whole different can of worms

I think social media bullying can actually be worse than face to face.
As can be seen here, people are much more bold over the Internet....and are quick to gang up/pile on...not to mention social media is 24/7/365, so the kids getting bullied can't escape it when the bell rings and you go home for the day.

Look at this place. It's a prime example of what kids face. We are all WAY nastier to each other here than we ever would be face to face. And kids have jello pudding between their ears.

The studies I provided do not show that. And they used CDC data.

Although as you can see in the 3rd graph, the # of offenders committing the bullying ARE decreasing...so that's good.

but by that same token, it’s much less personal
i could totally be wrong, and i’m sure my age and lack of participation in social media plays a role in my take
a teenage family member was sexually assaulted by a classmate in the past few years, and while the shit she dealt with in social media was bad, it paled in comparison to what she experienced face-to-face with other classmates. just an anecdote, i know, and a pretty specific one at that

Lifetime stats are bothersome to me. They typically lead to conclusions being drawn that aren't necessarily accurate. Maybe year over year was the wrong term. "In the last year" seems to be a better marker of whether a behavior is increasing or decreasing over time.
But I know you actually just posted that to be a smartass. It's all good.
