I have faith that Dotson Ochai and Mitch will all be good enough 3pt shooters next year for us to give Dok a little more space.

I really hope we play BIG next year. Give Mitch 25mpg at the 4. Let Garrett fill the holes. DMac or Dok in 100% of the time.

I really think Mitch is ready to be 1 of those guys who makes a team so much better just by doing the small things and having great situational awareness. His outside shooting is better than he's gotten to show.

We haven't won a national title since 2008.

So "good luck there" may not be wrong, but the same could be said about us.
But KU is also the best team in March during that time frame. Not to mention the streak and the overall W/L percentage.
Most people would take 2 championships over “best team in March during that time frame” and no championships.
Others wouldn’t. I get it.
My guess is Nova, Duke, UNC, and UConn fans don’t fall in the others category.
Hopefully we get one in 2020 and a few in the not too distant future after that.

Maybe it's time for a new Tee-shirt for you...

Come on. Mitch made 2 threes last year. Be serious. If that's the plan then we are screwed. "It's better than he's gotten to show" is called wishful thinking.

Ochai and Dotson will both likely shoot better but we desperately need to sign a grad transfer that can be a threat to make teams pay for doubling Dok.

Even if, and this is a big IF SdS is cleared you have a front line of DMac, Doke, Prison and SdS with no additional shooters unless Braun is the steal of the year that is asking a lot of Dot and Och. It is priority number 1 that they add shooters or the current make up of this team has second round upset written all over it. I don't believe you can win in a single game elimination tourney playing old school, two bigs basketball if you don't have at least one knock down shooter.

Mitch is 10/30 for his career (33.3%). With limited opportunity and no green light. That makes him one of our better 3pt shooters heading into next year. It's not wishful thinking. It's stats/facts.

Ochai shot 30.7% last year.

Dotson shot 36.3% last year.

Garrett is 24/94 (25.5%) career from 3pt land. If I'd have said he'd be a good 3pt shooter then that would have been wishful thinking. Especially since Garrett was slightly worse % wise his sophomore year than he was his freshman year.

No, it's a foolish application of stats to try to create a fact. More than 620 players in NCAA D1 basketball shot better than 33% from three last year. That is a stat. Of the players on our poor shooting team who attempted a three last year, Mitch was dead last in 3pt fg% at 20%. Lower than Charlie Moore. Lower than Marcus Garrett. That is a stat.

Mitch is not one of our "better" three point shooters. If he one of the better three point shooters on next year's team then KU is fucked. That is a fact.

Mitch has a better career 3pt % than Ochai or Marcus Garrett.

Can this recruiting year get any worse? Missing out on Earl, a hometown kid, still pisses me off.

Another fact is Dok has never missed a 3 in his entire career. Maybe he just hasn't been able to show his 3 pt shooting either. Damn Self for not letting his bigs fire away from deep!!

So weird. I say something positive about mitch, and support the statement with stats that show he's a 33% career 3pt shooter....but a few need to make sure we aren't too positive about Mitch this off season.

Mitch was ranked right in the sweet spot where many want us to recruit. Multi year guy. Loves Kansas. Isn't worried about NBA....and yet many are super negative when it comes to him. Can't have it both ways. So which is it?

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Or something like that. Never-mind.

two things:

There's not a board consensus, and there are a lot of people who post here. It's possible there are a bunch of people who like Mitch and a bunch of people who don't. They may or may not be the same people who like multi-year players. I'm with you that I think Mitch can shoot from the perimeter. I don't think he's gonna stretch the floor, or become a high volume perimeter shooter that scares the opponent, but I think he can hit a three when it's open and I'm more than happy when he shoots one. But the board, collectively, doesn't have to agree on shit.

Second, I don't think that being ranked outside the top 100 is the sweet spot. For me the sweet spot, where you're going to get the players who help your program the most in an area under the curve sense, is 25-50 rankings...so Dok, SDS, and McCormack...or the guys who if they're here, will be ahead of Mitch.

I was thinking mitch was in that 50-75 range. Not 100+. My mistake.

I would still rather have Mitch out there (on the perimeter, at the 4, shooting a 3/trying to stretch the defense, than Marcus Garrett.

It's not the idea that Mitch can hit a 3 that is the issue, it's the idea that you think that's enough to space the floor for Dok.

"I have faith that Dotson Ochai and Mitch will all be good enough 3pt shooters next year for us to give Dok a little more space."
