CrimsonNBlue wrote: Fri Apr 30, 2021 11:23 am I firmly believe Beaty was as good as we could do at the time, whether we paid hi $10m or $150k. He was also very obviously promised and he negotiated a pay bump after the Weis check cleared that essentially constituted backpay. There was a lot of bitching about that raise when it happened, but it was scheduled.
If your telling me that we got Beaty for 800k, while telling him when we pay off fat boy Charlie that we will give you more money that makes sense. If your telling me that under this salary scenario Beaty was as good as we could do that makes sense. If your telling me we could have paid $10m then the first two statements are null and void and make no sense.
The $10m was just an illustration to say we were not attracting any good coach after the Weis debacle.

Ok cool.

The last time I was in Lawrence was weekend of Les's first home game. Had a family thing planned way ahead didn't even know about football game. Have three sister's and brother all in the area and the previous trip stayed with one sister which pissed off another sister so this time I decided I would just stay at the Oread, which pissed off everyone. Anyways arrive on Thursday and one sister knows someone at the Oread so I get different room and comp tickets to the game. On Saturday go down stairs get something to eat and the place is packed. Go up the roof top and its just a festival. Just stayed up there. Never even crossed my mind to head over to the game. Had a blast. The point of all this is that I like college football and my whole family KU. It would be awesome to enjoy KU football. I apologize for the rants I just know if we hired the right coach we could get there and it's ok that guys are excited about this hire I just do not see it working out.

As a KU Football fan, nothing makes me happier than showing up at Memorial, with the hill, side streets and lots all filled. It's one of the coolest and most unique tailgating atmospheres in the Big 12 if not the country. Literally walk down a side street and out of nowhere, Memorial pops up with tons of people around.

I want that back. I don't need 9-3 seasons. Although that would be cool. But I want 40K people at Memorial to watch a competitive game every Saturday.

No worries. We are all fans frustrated with the dismal results, and all pissed off that it happened right after 20 wins over 2 seasons.

Somebody is going to break the futility KU football has been in. I firmly believe that. Hell, my wife to this day still gives me shit for how much I feel for Weis. The point here being we all care. We all want it to get better and none of us give two shits who does turn it around. We just went to be competitive and win the games we should win.

Saw this breakdown on the phog. I knew that Beaty left it in bad shape, but this is so staggering that you might even have to do the opposite of conventional wisdom and bring in upperclassmen transfers to balance it out for future classes.

But yet you have all the twitter buffoons that say "Beaty actually did good things there!" No, no he didn't. The only thing he did was give Kansas Football the ability to talk shit about Texas for a year.

Les did things the right way in that aspect. Worked on building young and going from there. 2020 and 2021 was always going to be a struggle. 2022 and 2023 might be the start of some fun years.

So, does this mean, we're gonna have something like 16 schollies to offer next year?

Also, a freshman is probably much more likely to transfer out than say a junior. Does this open the door for the roster falling apart again?

Asking even though I already know the answer.

Doesn't this set up nicely in some ways?

**Obviously things will change a little with transfers, but this set's up 2022 to look something like

7 - SR (+2 Grad Transfer)
19 - JR (+1 Grad Transfer or JUCO)
30 - SO
6 - RS FR (+13 recruits)

I've seen Phd mention 16 scholarships available? Anyone know how accurate that number is?

Say it is 16, I'd say spend 13 on HS players and take a flyer on 3 JUCO's or grad transfers to get a few more upperclassman.

If there is a small exodus of players, bring on some Buffalo guys to fill their scholarships. Gimmie their OL and let's roll.

Buffalo's starting center put his name in the portal yesterday. I'd take him in a heartbeat, our O-line stinks.

I think it is a pretty nice setup that made the job more attractive (provided we can keep the players in).

Agree with offering some upperclassmen and jucos. My only concern with the breakdown is feeling the future graduations too harshly when the program is (hopefully) really getting going. That, and some of those underclassmen are inevitably not good enough to play. Goes against conventional wisdom, but may need 2, 3, 4 incoming upperclassmen that you know are going to see the field in 2021 and 2022.

What if anything did Goff know and was there any hesitation to hire a guy coming from a program with sexual harassment issues - when we just fired a head coach for similar reasons?

Gutter, did you read your link? I'd be shocked if Goff didn't know about the complaints and am having a very hard time coming up with any kind of link between that story and Goff who was head of fundraising and development.

"and Goff who was head of fundraising and development".

"It became clear to (Richardson) that the cheerleaders were being presented as sex objects to titillate the men that funded the majority of Northwestern’s athletics programs,” the lawsuit says. “After all, the happier these men were, the more money the university would receive from them.”

Gutter, you know I love you, but to make this AD hire about you is pretty extreme gutter.
