Grimes was a 34% shooter and the biggest thing last year was not enough shooting to create space for Lawson. So replace Grimes with a worse shooter, and Lawson with a guy with worse footwork and passing, and all is good.
Hey, at least you have faith in though.
No one is arguing he wouldn't be a better option than Garrett. Just because you'd feel better with one taking a shot over the other doesn't mean the shot should be taken.

I like mitch. He tries hard, gives us decent minutes and gathers some boards. He isnt a good enough shooter to free up much and has 0 lateral quickness. Nobody is going to worry about him blowing by for a layup (Garrett at least gives us that). If mitch is our "stretch 4" option it doesn't bode well for us playing 4 out. If mitch is in were limited to hi lo and weave motion

He's gotten better every year.
He played well in several B12 games this season. Is a solid shot blocker against guys his size or smaller.
It would be good to bring someone in who has more of an offensive game than Mitch -- it'd be great for Mitch to be able to start but i'd prefer him to be coming off the bench.

Then we need to recruit better players.
Because transfers who aren't familiar with our system rarely work.
Because Marcus Garrett is nearly worthless as a stretch 4 due to his lack of shooting ability....not to mention he's going to be needed in the 1-3 spots.
We don't have anyone good enough to unseat Mitch as our starting 4.
Sorry guys.

Lightfoot had a pretty good shooting touch when he arrived. I think there will be some additional athletes here soon as it is. ISU has made a living on transfers. The game has devolved to better shooting Brady Morningstars anyway.

This is why I see so many more whities in NBA lately. Crackers still good at chucking the 3 ball which is what that league has become.
Saw a playoff game the other night 6 whities on floor at once. In an NBA game. I mean holy shit amirite?

Lightfoot just didn't improve as much as we needed in the last three years.
It's very possible a transfer could come in and push him for playing time/his starting spot.
I think Self may have been counting on Hurt but the FBI situation threw that for a loop -- now we have to patch up the 4 spot or play 4 guards more often than not.

Yeah.
How often are we uncertain whether a Bill Self senior power forward will even be starting?

The ones that come to mind are Traylor, Lightfoot, and then the outlier: Darnell Jackson.

Young?

I should have included Young, but maybe a little less than the other 3 in that 1. He wasn't a four-year Bill Self PF project, and 2. I think his spot at the 4 was rather solidified in 2013, unless I am misremembering.

Young was indeed a transfer, and wasn’t even necessarily supposed to start except that Perry wasn’t ready.
Jackson wasn’t projected to start mostly just cuz he had to win the spot from the incumbent starter Kaun, who was also a senior

It’s already annoying as fuck that Lightfoot is Jamari 2.0 for Illy

Young and Lightfoot are similar in the fact they were never planned to start while here, but instead be decent to good rotation guys. Lightfoot has done that. Young started because Perry wasn't ready, as ousdahl mentioned. Lightfoot is in the conversation at the moment, assuming 2 bigs is the starting lineup, because there is literally no other 4 on the roster.
Looking a little deeper, maybe it wasn't the fact Ellis wasn't ready that put Young in the lineup. He shot 33% from 3 his Jr year. Maybe Self just wanted him in there to space the floor.

Rayjon Tucker?
Any good? According to my CBS app, he can shoot, play D, and reboud.

Mitch is fine. A good role player. His role is not to shoot threes, it’s to rebound, get loose balls, block shots, box out, make smart passes, encourage his more talented teammates to do their best.
We need Holyfield and Tucker.

Early indications are that his Auburn visit went very well and that they are 'frontrunners'

Sounds like he will make a decision after his Kansas visit. May bode well for us.
