What is the roster for the Olympic squad? Seems like it's a bunch of U-21 guys while other countries like Brazil have Neymar, William, Marquinhos and others.
Traditionally the roster rules are players aged 23 or under (so born in 1998). However an exception was made for this years tournament to allow for players aged 24 or under (born in 1997). And you are always allowed a 3 player exemption to this rule (e.i. 3 players over the age of 23/24).
So, this means our entire A squad would have been able to play in Tokyo
21 - Soto
21 - Dike
20 - de la Fuente
18 - Musah
20 - Aaronson
24 - Yueill (better players available, but he would have been the captain of the qualifying squad)
23 - Cannon
20 - Reynolds 26 - Miazga
24 - Palmer-Brown
18 - Odunze
?? - Third GK
So this is actually a huge miss

Really odd that one game settles it all basically. One bad game can end all chances. Just to qualify for an Olympics spot.
You have to make the finals for the Qualifying tournament to qualify for the Olympics. So, you have to be able to beat any other team in CONCACAF other than Mexico. That shouldn't be too hard to do, but apparently it is. Three straight failures, haven't qualified since 2008

Twellman was pretty disappointed and was deflecting excuses.
Would always rather have my rooting interests in the Olympics.

Appreciate that Cascadia. I wasn't for sure.
Very disappointing. Maybe they're trying to take it somewhat easy for Qatar in a year and a half..? Is there any carryover from doing well in Olympics to World Cup? I know it's a bit apples to apples, but this situation hits close to home, but KC went all in on the CONCACAF Champions League 2 years ago, and then were completely exhausted when they got to league play.
Maybe US is deciding they're putting all their eggs in the WC basket and going from there..?

Honestly, it's tough to say if there is any carryover or not. Most of the time the Olympic Squad and the World Cup Squads don't have very many players in common because of the age restrictions. The US is in a very unusual scenario where most of our best players (and future stars) are at an age where they could play in both. The Olympics would essentially be the same time as the Gold Cup so maybe it's a bit of a wash. Gold Cup is obviously not as challenging as the Olympics, but I think at this point it's just getting this guys time together.
The other thing to consider is that the USMNT has a busy summer/fall already.
Jun - 4 matches (2 friendly, 2 Nations League)
Jul - 3 to 6 matches (Gold Cup)
Sep - 3 matches (WC Qualifying)
Oct - 3 matches (WC Qualifying)
Nov - 2 matches (WC Qualifying)

This is irrelevant because it’s Egypt. But I love these uniforms for them.

The glyphs are great.
The accent lines don't flow - they need to connect to something - just seem out of place.
The black jersey works better because the accent lines don't seem so lost/random because of the contrast.
I'd have made the cuffs on the sleeves and the very bottom of the shirt the gold and black color too ( from the accents ) so those lines flowed.

Accent lines need to be gold

Really nice season opening win for Sporting KC Saturday night. On the road, without 3 or 4 regular starters, and playing Busio as the center forward, they quickly turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win. The defense already looks far and away better than what we've seen the last 2 seasons. If that holds true, this team could be really good.

Played a kid at goalkeeper, too.
I thought we were toast after NYRB's kid had the golazo. Really great sign. Should be near the top of the West with this squad.

story on the radio made it sound like it was really just the “relevant” heads of state that don’t like it
in my mind, it’s just more practice for the european elites to continue building their dominance against the US

Will be interesting to see how much these leagues and competitions fight. Seems like those clubs are done with UEFA and they may be kicked out of their perspective leagues as well.
I'm on the fence. Love being able to turn on Premier League on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Watch Bundesliga on ESPN+ and the like and so many more. Those leagues will struggle without those clubs. But also believe that those bigger clubs keep those leagues afloat more than those leagues want to admit.
Sucks for the fans that live in those countries as bragging rights within the country will be a moot point.
American greed started this entire thing, on a sport that is like 5th in the pecking league of our own country.

European soccer finally got tired of crapping all over American soccer for not having pro/rel that they've decided to kill the system in their countries as well so the top teams can just rake in revenue, spend less money, and not be threatened with getting booted down a league. So fun. Arsenal and Tottenham will be this league's version of the Royals and Marlins. Yay.

I mean, good for the clubs as they don't have to play Fulham and Eibar and Mainz, but part of me loves the underdog. Seeing Bournemouth play and barely lose to Man U at home in a stadium full of like 7K people was something that made me smile. Especially when they scored first. The stadium was rocking.
Sure, Man City playing at Camp Nou consistently would be fun, but also kind of blah too.

I honestly don't get the fun and enjoyment people get out of European soccer leagues. They're worse than MLB with their lack of balance and parity. Champions of each league in the last 10 years
Bundesliga
8 - Bayern Munich (won last 8 years in a row)
2 - Borussia Dortmond
Serie A
9 - Juventus (won last 9 years in a row)
1 - Milan
La Liga
6 - Barcelona
3 - Real Madrid
1 - Atletico Madrid
**No other La Liga team has a Top 3 finish in the last 8 years
Premier League
4 - Manchester City
2 - Manchester United
2 - Chelsea
1 - Liverpool
1 - Leicester City

Interesting Juergen Klopp is very against it, but Liverpool is one of the founding members.

I don't like the permanence of the Super League clubs - as in some clubs get to stay fixed without relegation.
I very much enjoy the theory of relegation in soccer.
Also that means one club could just be 20th place every season in this super league - but that same club could have been, i dunno, top 8 in whatever league they were in previous.
