Ivy doesn't have a conference tournament. He hasn't won the league outright in six years. If you can't win a shitty league, you shouldn't be considered for a head coaching job at a blue blood.
They do have a conference tourney now.

There are a lot of similarities between duke and harvard that would be relevant.
And Amaker has done about as good of a job as you can do at Harvard. Not making the tournament in 6 years has to do with playing in a 1-bid league,
needing to win a stupid conference tournament, and not having a post season due to a pandemic in two of those years. He's won more than half the conference titles since he's been there...which is far more than K in the same span.
Most of those years the Ivy didn't have a conference tournament. The proved to be smarter than everyone else by using common sense and giving their one bid to the best team that season and not just which team won 3 games in 3 days.

Oh, I guess they started that in '17. I stand corrected.

Speaking of conference tournaments, with no OSU, how's the B12 work this year?
Only one game on Wednesday?

Lunardi currently has 7 of the 9 eligible Big 12 teams in the NCAA tournament. Wild.

The Ivey league didn't play at all in '21 and cancelled their tournament in '20.
So, he didn't have a chance in 33% of the seasons you're being critical of him for.

attempting to make an argument for amaker is just arguing for the sake of arguing.
if KU hired a basketball coach with the same resume as amaker, you all would be flipping out.

He didn't make the tournament at all, in six years, while at Michigan.
That's the red flag.
Saban failed at Michigan State.
Belichek failed at Cleveland.
Coaches tend to get better over time.

Yes,
I'd be even more pissed if they hired Scheyer.
Claiming otherwise is just arguing for the sake of arguing.
Also, I'm not arguing that Amaker should be Duke's coach. But to say he's been anything but successful at Harvard just isn't true. And saying he has missed the tournament the last 6 years is like arguing self should be fired for only making the tournament once in the past two seasons. You're just looking for ways to be unfairly critical of him.

So is the argument that if Duke is going to make a shitty hire that they should hire a black dude instead of a Jewish dude?

My argument is we should be fair in how we evaluate coaches. Not hold canceled seasons against them.

Six seasons at Michigan though without a NCAA appearance.
Amaker's career record at Michigan was 109-83 overall -- with three 20-win seasons -- and 43-53 in the Big Ten.
He's done well at Harvard.
But I think if Danny went back to coaching at Tulsa, he could get back to where he was before.

Bruce Weber has seemingly gotten worse....but I will admit I didn't check his season records to verify if that's truly the trend.

Not universally, but I'd bet most mid-career coaches are better than they were early on. It's not a linear progression, but as with most jobs there's a learning curve.
And he wasn't a disaster at Michigan. He won 56% of his games which is good enough to get you fired, but isn't something that precludes you from being considered for a better job in the future.

Amaker would have been in his mid-30s when he got the Michigan job....I think there's a lot more career improvement at that stage than there is at Weber who took the job in his late 50s.
