I'm with Trad.
NC State has 2 and hasn't been to the Final Four in 40 years.
I'm good with that.

UConn has 5 in the last 25 years and could go back to back.
Nah.

Yeah, that’s stupid sports tribalism that doesn’t matter.

I get that aspect of it.

But whether UConn gets 1 ahead of us or if Purdue gets 1 closer to us, someone is still winning and it isn't going to be KU.

I don't cheer against other bluebloods (that does NOT include UConn fyi, because they aren't a blueblood in my opinion) just because they are bluebloods. I find it easy to root for UNC (especially now that Roy is gone). UK is different due to the all time wins race, so I guess I do cheer against them in that way now that we had to "vacate" wins (which is bullshit, those wins happened).

I guess I just don't judge KU's success based off the success or failures of other programs that much. How many titles UConn has doesn't impact how I feel about KU's legacy or standing in the CBB world. UCLA has more than anyone and they're largely irrelevant most years.

It would be like me as a Titans fan not wanting the Chiefs to win anymore just because they have.

Yes I know lots of people believe and comment in such way. I think that’s dumb, minus an actual rival doing it. Like, say Mizzou. Yeah, I can’t even type that without laughing IRL

I actually agree with Illy on the schools…but for different reasons.

Duke and UK fans fucking suck in public and in conversation from actual experience I have had.

Nova, UNC, others…not so much. Quite enjoyable to converse with, actually.

I totally get it.
Pats fans don't want the Chiefs to equal their dynasty.
If the Titans had 6 Super Bowls ( let alone 1 single one ) most fans wouldn't want the Chiefs to tie them.

Makes sense to me.

lol.
If Mahomes wins 3 more Super Bowls WITH Andy I don't know how you can say that.
If Mahomes wins 4 more Super Bowls regardless of who is coach, I also don't know how you can say that.

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

In a similar line of thinking, I wonder if Self is watching these sports talk shows all saying Hurley is the best coach in CBB and finding some motivation.

I sure hope so. Because Self didn't seem very motivated last year. I can't remember a Kansas team that played less hard and less focused or got out coached as many times as we did last year. And if it's just because the players weren't as good as years past then that's on Self too. He builds the team.

I'd like a highly motivated Bill Self for this final stretch of his career. I think he'll find some serious motivation from this season for a variety of reasons.

put another way, as a Kansas fan i want the program to lead in every historical category possible

the more success the “true” challengers have, the more difficult that becomes

i don’t care how good they are
Kentucky and Duke (and UCLA but lol) are the only ones I root against to win titles. Other than them, if it’s not KU, I root for good basketball and humans (from what we know) winning.
i’ll never root for any program with 3+

in a non-tourney game, sure…maybe even an early-round game against misery or some such shit, but i don’t care to see nova, indiana, uconn, or any of the other blue bloods win another ‘ship

might be irrational, but don’t care
I'm with ya.

altho I don't hate Indiana. The rest absolutely not cheering for them.

To me, Bill Self to be struggling to create "post heart problem" Bill Self. Ball buster Bill Self could scream and yell. Now he is trying to find a kinder, gentler way to get to the same point and hasn't quite figured it out yet.

That and having a short-handed roster that whiffed on a portal shooter and then suffered through some injuries to key players at the worst time.

and granted, some of that is absolutely on Self and the staff. but, it’s also a hell of a confluence of bad luck

Teams I will not cheer for in the tourney no matter what nice story/player is on their roster:

Mizzou
K State
Kentucky
Duke
UConn
Nova
Texas

It was bad luck, yes. But it's really not GREAT that we're having the exact same conversations today as we were having at this time in 2019. I'm aware that we've had 1.5 title-ish things since then, but it's pretty goddamn obnoxious that we made the same mistakes in such a short time period later.

Yes, both are true.

Kansas was 16-3, ranked 7th in the nation with wins over Kentucky, UConn, Tennessee and Oklahoma when he hurt his knee in a win vs. Cincinnati on 1/22.

KU was 7-8 after that point.
