i’ve got a friend that i went to grad school with that lives in Ann Arbor, but teleworks for USGS…brilliant person, whose only other current option is going back to a post-doc that is, you guessed it, federally-funded (NSF/NIH)

i can’t imagine being in that position, with a family to think about

And I would guess that this part is more feature than bug to a huge chunk - possibly a majority - of MAGA. For example, the sort of family man who might make several million dollars/year to kick a football.

Hopefully everyone who works in universities and colleges have been honing their orange picking skills. If you don't mind sleeping in a shipping container with 20 other people and shitting outdoors there are about 800,000 temp jobs in Cali right now I hear.

I have been trying to talk my daughter into leaving her job at KU for a year now. She has a better offer in the private sector, but she likes the teaching aspect of her job. The choice may be made for her soon. Luckily she has a landing place already. I feel bad for everyone who does not.

Abusive dad president wants everyone to know he is in charge. The retribution will be widespread and indiscriminate, cuz chaos is wut keeps everyone on their toes and in fear. Governance by fear is what we have been needin fer awhile. Get used to it.

Mini BUD lost a client and they came out and said they are concerned about the future economy and want to take less risk and move their agency local. She is going to have to do layoffs.

One of my brothers works for the federal government and has been getting weird emails and has had big group meetings with a trump appointee on efficiency and roles. Everyone in his department is terrified.

I do not perceive my own job to be at risk, but my ability to do it well is certainly compromised; it’s challenging to help people and businesses do what they want to do in a manner that complies with laws, rules and regulations when you don’t have any confidence in what the laws, rules and regulations are and mean and do and require.

But laying off a slew of people and implementing ai systems isn't going to do unemployment numbers any favors, nor the countries morale.

This isn't about government efficiency at all. But if it is, this is the least efficient way of fixing it as you are going to run off the best workers so that all that remains are the most desperate due to them being the least capable of getting a different job.

There is justifiable criticism for redundancy in our federal workforce.

There is merit to the notion of the market providing many of the services that are provided by the federal workforce (and there is also merit to the notion of the government, through the federal workforce, providing some services presently provided by the market).

What is disastrous to both federal government employees and private market employees is flooding the private market with competition from suddenly-displaced, qualified and experienced (former) federal government employees.
