I feel it's idiotic to agree that Biden is an "idiot".
I would put Biden's intelligence up against those who post on the boards and my guess is he is more intelligent than 75%+ of those who post on here.
Of course he says and does dumb things. We ALL do.
I believe the fact that he "suffers" from stuttering has a bearing on how he thinks and verbally articulates himself.
People who stutter are often made fun of because they stutter. In many people's minds they (people who stutter) are automatically thought of as being dumb or at least less intelligent because of their stutter.
Forgetting his stutter, of course Biden has shown signs of being senile and other mental issues and they absolutely should be a concern - as he is our President but I can all but assure people that Joe Biden cares more about this country and it's well being that Donald Trump ever did and will. If and when he feels he lacks the mental capacity to be President and/or when his advisors feel he does, he'll step down.
On a semi-related note, Donald Trump ran for President for Donald Trump. Joe Biden ran for President for the United States of America and it's citizens.

While I think there’s some truth to that, I also think that believing a politician actually cares about you is like believing a stripper actually thinks you’re cute.

And when has a politician stepped down cuz they acknowledge they lack the capacity to do the job any more? Even if his advisors say so?

I think asking a politician to concede their position of power is like asking a bull elk to stop being so horny during the rut. They’re just not wired that way.

The one example I can think of is Sarah Palin, but I think she sincerely believed a reality show gig was a more powerful position than the governorship. (Not sure she’s wrong, either...)

I agree with your first sentence but I didn't say Biden cares about you/me as individuals - per se.
I said he cares about this country and it's citizens as a whole.

To answer your question of when a politician has stepped down - I think you're basically asking because they admitted to lacking the mental capacity to properly do the job - I don't have an immediate answer to that. I would have to do some research but I assume there have been some who either did it on their own or were forced to do as such.

There is a difference between being asked to resign and being told to resign. Maybe I am fooling myself but being that Joe has implied he will be a one term President (assuming he survives one term) I have to figure his mental health and well being is a factor in his decision.

Heck, I questioned his sanity the moment I learned he was running for President. The man was what 75/76 years old? I think he has earned the right to enjoy his twilight years without the pressures of being the President of the United States. As much as he MAY love the country, wtf would he want the pressure/s that come with being the President?
I also questioned the sanity of the Democratic figure heads who didn't (or at least weren't successful) in telling him he probably shouldn't run.

Old politicians choose not to run again all the time. I would assume that their feelings of not being able to do the job as well as necessary play into those decisions for at least some of them. Are you only considering them to be stepping out due to diminishing capacity if they step down in the middle of their term?

Well, the big difference now as to why it’s not as likely to happen again is, this time Trump is no longer in the position to be able to stymie law enforcement’s response before and during any shenanigans.

So, we should ignore him while he tries? That usually doesn't work out very well.
