I'm happy to see the holiday. I won't get it off. We don't get MLK day so why would we get this one.

So .6%
1.25%, there are only about 160 million Americans in the work force.

Schools will be out too, so its actually going to cost most parents money to have the holiday (same with most federal holidays).

Im not against the holiday, i dont like federal only holidays. I think creating a federal holiday is a mostly empty gesture.

I was already on summer break when I was a student.

Fair point.

My basic point remains.

Im glad you like federal holidays. I dont think half of them serve a real purpose. But i dont see a point to continue arguing with you about our opinions.

Let’s either do away with Christmas as a federal holiday, or also add Yom Kippur, Eid Al-Fitr, etc.

At least everyone gets that day off.

Columbus day and presidents day are worthless. To a slightly lesser extent so are veterans day and MLK.

you said it doesn't affect 99% of people, that's not true.

According to https://www.zenefits.com/workest/the-pa ... s-in-2020/

Civilian workers get:
90% get Jan. 1 off
90% get Memorial day off
92% get Independence day off
97% get Thanksgiving off
97% get Christmas off
32% get MLK day off
24% get president's day off
21% get Good Friday
19% get Veteran's day
43% get the day after Thanksgiving
28% get Christmas eve off
15% get New Year's eve off

This is for Civilian workers. It's not required that they give ANY of these days off (some aren't even Federal holidays). My guess is Juneteenth will be on the lower end of this, but I'm sure a substantial number of people will be given the day off.

Clearly you’ve never worked in the service industry.

And yeah, it’s bullshit that we have a fucking Presidents’ Day but no federal holiday for voting day.

Christmas is not JUST a religious holiday.

Ok. Pick up your cookie at the reception desk for spotting the error of my ways... somewhere between 15 and 21% of people will be happy to have the day off.

My opinion that this, along with most federal holidays are empty gestures and aren't all that impactful to the average person...remains.

Sorry. To be specific and use PhDs stats. 97% of people get that day off.

It's become a secular holiday.

Lot's of non Christians celebrate Christmas. And most of the celebration for both Christians and non Christians is not religious based. Santa, trees, presents, egg nog, etc have nothing to do with Jesus.

Even most Christmas songs and movies are secular.

I'd argue it's MORE a cultural holiday than a religious one.

I think Yom Kippur is entirely a religious holiday. I don't know anyone who's not a practicing member of the Jewish faith who celebrates Yom Kippur. I am not aware of any secular celebrations or traditions that apply that take place in the US.
