The 4th and 3 situation seems like the Beaty special. Except, it was often more like 4th and inches.
Can't risk going for it, too much to lose and all.
It was also, always, a very sad exhibition of a state of utter denial about what you had on the offensive side at the ball. 4th and short anywhere outside the shadow of your own goalposts might be one of the best opportunities you'd have all day.
I always like when the commentators say "Punting is the correct choice here, it tells his defense he trusts them." Wouldn't going for it at midfield also tell your defense you trust them to keep the other team out of the end zone if you don't convert?
Punting in these situations also tells your quarterback that you trust him to score later. That hasn't been a winning bet in ten years!

AAAANNNDD
Doesn't punting tell your offense you have no faith in them and going for it tell them you trust them?

Interesting.
I wonder what would have happened if Goff stayed at NU and was promoted.

Is Goff one of the 4 defendants named in the lawsuit?

No.
That's why I said I wonder what would have happened if he stayed and was promoted.
I assume if he was named in "the lawsuit", he probably would have faced the same scrutiny that Polisky faced.
Since he wasn't, I ASSUME he probably would have been a popular choice to be promoted to the new head AD at NU.
I honestly don't know how I feel so I'll ask - which do you feel is a better gig? KU or Northwestern?

Now? KU
Like 3 years ago? Northwestern
Seems like ever since Phillips left, it's been one bad decision after another for them. Northwestern will forever have their guy in Fitzgerald in football, like Kansas does with Self in basketball, but Northwestern is 1 bad year away from firing Chris Collins. You hired an AD despite complaints and he "resigns" 10 days later.
What a shitshow that department has become in just a few short months. Probably why Goff didn't want to try and stick around and why he left for KU.

My guess is that Goff would have been named interim AD, but they would have (and will) bring in a completely new regime next year after this shit show.
NW, as an institution, is just not KU.

Lost another one to the portal yesterday, but apparently he is looking to drop to FCS to play running back and was not expected to play here. Another exit we can handle if there are only a few.

Kickoff against South Dakota to open the year will be on Friday night, September 3rd.
Time TBD, I believe. They moved it to help fill stadium a bit more with Memorial Day weekend kicking off for many that Saturday.
Then next week at Coastal will be a Friday night as well on the 10th. Will be on national TV through ESPN.
Didn't realize this but it's the 100th anniversary at Memorial this year. Pretty cool.

Damn. I liked having the Saturday evening first games. One of the better crowds, nice weather, and packed patios at the Wheel and Oread. Friend of a friend always has a big tailgate for first game where he does a whole pig roast. A work day changes a lot of that.

Looks like the South Dakota game will kick off at 7 p.m. and will be on ESPN+.

Yeah you're right Unholy.
I get why they did it. And in all reality, it makes some sense. Shit I meant Labor Day in my first post, but I think Labor Day is going to be one of the biggest Labor Day weekends in terms of travel, lots of people will go visit places and what not. But they may not leave until Saturday morning, which allows a greater ability for the game to have more fans.
I expect the KU/Coastal game to be on ESPN or ESPN 2 as KU will be first P5 team to visit Coastal and it'll be a good atmosphere. BYU visited last year and it was a crazy atmosphere with limited fans.
I like the Friday games, I coach my son's youth football team and they play on Saturdays, so my Saturdays will be a bit more open now without watching KU football for the first 2 games on Saturdays.
My god though is this season going to be rough. I always said 2022 was going to be the breakout year for Kansas football. It got delayed a year with this whole thing, but just have to grind through these first couple of years. Just play smart football and most fans will be happy. It's being bad and being dumb that make the team hard to root for. But if they play hard and play smart, you'll impress a few fans.

This right here just sums it all up. This fall I just want to see a team that is disciplined and aggressive. I thought the Beaty-coached teams were the definition of dumb and passive. When I say aggressive, I want to see that come through in the coaching. No more punting in plus territory on 4th and 3 or less. Be aggressive in going for two. No conservative play calling because you're ok with attempting a 40-yard field goal when I swear we have had the absolute worst kickers in the nation for the past 10 seasons.

The Coastal games have been a big disappointment in that CC is clearly a good team that we don't need to face when building reps and confidence. There really isn't much the previous regimes didn't screw up.

I will say this. One of the knocks that some Buffalo fans had about Leipold is that he's not much of a gambler. He'll have a punt on 4th and short from the +40 (opponent 40) but he won't agonize over it, he's pretty consistent in his approach. But I will say this, if they decide to go for it, they won't need a TO to figure it out, they'll have a play ready to go.

Where do I sign up?
Schedule is favorable in terms of conference games at home with West Va, Tech, kstate and to a lesser extent Baylor.
They'll beat South Dakota. They absolutely won't beat Coastal, Iowa State, OU, oSu, Texas and TCU.
Toss up (seriously) games include Duke (they really stunk last year), Baylor, Tech, kstate.
Schedule with predicitions as of now
South Dakota - W by 13
@ Coastal - L by like 27
@ Duke - L by 7 or so
@ Iowa State - L by 30
Tech - Legit pick em
OU - Loss by 40
@ oSu - L by 28
kstate - L by like 14
@ Texas - L by 20+
@ TCU - L by 20
West Va - L by 17

Duke is worse than Boston College.
