I have. And it will only continue to happen more frequently once the laws protecting the bad apples are dismantled.

Doubt many (like almost NONE) are truly hoping for someone to flee so they can kill them. That is so stupid. And it is dangerous rhetoric.

There are absolutely bad cops. There are absolutely bad rules/training for cops that need to change....but 99.99% of cops do a great job for the right reasons and help keep their communities safe.

I defend cops that kill and injure citizens in civil suits. And, there are a lot of different types of people out there. Of course, most cops are good people trying to do their job as best they can. Of course, your 99.99% stat is ridiculous.

You might as well say 99.99% of all people do a great job for the right reasons--it's an outrageous, unsourced, inflated stat that is thrown out there to try and quiet down the police reform rhetoric.

Maybe by some. I have been pretty vocal about the need for police reform around here. So there shouldn't be much confusion on that.

...but law enforcement consists of a lot of things other than local law enforcement. There is a BIG difference between how local police act/are trained, and how other the other types of law enforcement are trained.

And also i think it is safe to assume there is a difference in qualifications/characteristics of who is hired for those different branches of law enforcement.

I agree with this, and some of those things are why I believe we could have a healthy discussion whether using force on suspects fleeing is still what we want/still the best thing for public safety.

Yeah, that’s the thing!

The only charge against the cops who shot Taylor was one of endangerment or whatever, cuz at least one of the cops couldn’t even see who or what he was shooting at, and a bullet went through a neighbor’s wall.

The meme at the time was something like, cops shoot an unarmed black woman in her own home and only get charged for the bullets that missed”

What remedy might be available for the cop who got shot by another cop?

Out of my wheelhouse, but I'd imagine have to go through workers' comp first.

And KCPD has had a rough month.

I still have nightmares of the day a cop accidentally shot me.

But, for sure, lets arm some teachers.

Just saw a comment online (for tdub: yes, this one WAS on Reddit, cuz I came across a discussion on the kc police shooting when I was otherwise, uh, not there for niche porn, heh heh...)

Anywho so somebody suggests some law along the lines of, “betrayal of public trust,” which could apply to any public official who tries to falsify a report or otherwise cover up how something actually went down, and adds some mandatory minimum sentence on top of whatever other charges are involved.

Could that help to gain accountability, and foster trust between communities and cops?

Of course, that would really only work if other charges are brought in the first place, which we’ve seen time and again is very UNlikely to happen against cops either way.

It doesn’t really address that fact. Perhaps more frequently bringing the appropriate charges (instead of letting cops act with impunity) could be the best resolution all along.

I saw an encouraging video the other day....about 5 or 6 cops were arresting a guy. He didn't look to be too non-compliant but was maybe giving them a bit of a hard time verbally....anyway, cop gets him in handcuffs and is putting him in the car and another cop slaps or hits the person (handcuffed)...the other cop immediately pushes that cop in the chest and yells at him, and then a short time later puts that cop in handcuffs and arrests him for assaulting the person being detained.

That is the way we turn this whole thing around. Good cops holding bad cops accountable. And also good cops weeding out the bad cops.

Just 1 incident, but encouraging nontheless. Because of all the things i have seen before, i don't think i have ever seen something like that.

Last night I would have preferred "bad cops" dealt with the situation in Millennium Park and the Loop than the no cops (or way too few) who did.

I hope that "good" cop doesn't accept the invitation from his co-workers to go boating this week.
