its a pretty easy distinction.
hey..heres this option...take it or dont...your choice.
hey..heres this option..don't take it or you're an idiot.
The reason we’re here is because Society is too polite to take the latter option. In several cases “here is the prudent and science-based option. Or you can be an idiot and not take that option” is exactly the way to describe the situation (eg. vaccination, flat-earth).
Glad we are beginning to treat antivaxxers with the (lack of) respect they deserve. Give them their Darwin Award and make them go away.
Since someone brought it up, I don’t know who is more dangerous to society: antivaxxers or homeopathists
No.
we got here because we are a country built on freedom and choice. Exactly how it should stay.
OR, we got here by, in a great many ways and at a great many times, people banding together and making individual sacrifices for the common good.
Six of one, half a dozen of the other I guess!

We as a nation have always had the caveat that the government can aid in protecting citizens from the poor decisions of other citizens. If people never made bad decisions, we wouldn't need laws, public health mandates, police departments, jails, fire departments, judges, etc... am I free to choose to shoot my neighbor? No, obviously not. But if you want to be consistent about this notion of "freedum to chooze" then shouldn't I be?
It is part of the agreement we as citizens make when we choose to live as members of a community. We aren't in 1776 living on a farm in the wilderness with no one else around for miles.

I agree. Everyone should have the freedom and choice to be an idiot. Everyone else should have the freedom, choice and more importantly the obligation to call out said idiotic choices as such.

And for real how often is “make my own decisions” invoked for other medical anything?
“Sir, you have cancer, but the good news is the tumor can be easily removed.” Agree to disagree!
“Ma’am, your appendix burst, and if wr don’t operate soon, you’re life is in danger” BUT MAH RIGHTS.
You know they don't force people to be operated on, right?

I'm pretty sure that's his point.
For anything other that THIS ONE VIRUS people overwhelmingly do what's best for them and trust their physicians and what the science said.
If you get stitches, they will suggest you get a tetanus shot. I'm guessing the vast majority get it. Certainly far fewer reject it than the idiots not getting vaccinated for covid.

Right freedom of speech protects you from the state. It doesn't protect you from losing your job, being banned from certain places, from getting your ass kicked etc. Freedom doesn't protect you from consequences.
To my knowledge no one's been forcibly vaccinated by the state or held prisoner for not getting the shot.
They should get ridiculed and shunned the same way people who do any other truly idiotic thing are. If you have a job that requires vaccination and you lose your job for not getting it...tough titties.

well cancer probably does not have a 99 percent survival rate without any sort of medical treatment so this is a ridiculous analogy

My office is implementing a vaccine mandate ahead of the Federal Govt.
Starting Nov. 1:
All employees must be vaccinated or submit negative Covid tests to work in the office or travel for work.

So it's not about stopping the spread? It's just about making sure only vaccinated people are spreading the virus?
Weird way of thinking. Testing is easy to do. Vaccinated people still contract and spread the virus. If my kid can test regularly for school, adults can test regularly for work.
Your reaction to my comment is why some people think this is more about submission than stopping the virus. It's not acceptable for vaccinated people to spread the virus either imo. If it's truly about making the work place safe and covid free then testing is part of that even for the vaccinated.

Why are some vaccinated people SO against being tested?
It's as childish as refusing to wear a mask once vaccinated.

At a significantly lower rate.
You seem to always leave that important part out.

And ignore what seems to be the most pressing problems at this stage of the pandemic: resource exhaustion and fully opening the economy.
