all that tells me. is that the bottom 50% don't work hard enough. they are probably mostly millennials.
You know how if you put the same poles of two magnets next to each other, they will push away from each other? That's sort of like you and reality. By seeing what you reflexively push away from, it's easy to identify (by implication) what is true.

Slaves worked really hard.

It is just howlingly stupid to suggest that, as a class, the bottom half do not work as hard as the 1% wealthiest.
Edit to add: it’s even howlingly stupider to suggest that what keeps the bottom half in the bottom half is that they just don’t work hard enough.

i’m tempted to say that, on average, they probably work harder than most of the top 1%

You’re getting at the crux of the point - the way things are set up, the very very top of the food chain really does not have to work hard at all. Particularly when you start talking about generational wealth as opposed to income.
1% right now is about $650k/year. I would suggest that most people making around $650k/year are still working extremely hard. But when you get into net worths in the eight+ figures…
Which isn’t to talk shit on that class. In many/most cases, you’re talking about the results of hard work.
But if the conversation is about what separates the top 1% from the bottom 50%…the answer is NOT work ethic.

right
i’d also wager that the majority of the 1% were born into that club…the self-made types would seem to me to be the exceptions

Maybe. But this is where the 1% framing misses the mark. There is a vast, vast difference between net worths of 1% and 0.5%. And then a vaster (?) difference at each 0.1% increment.

Whats even more more mind-numbing, the folks that complain daily about what they make / spend...while at the same time believing that the much more fortunate EARNED what they have.
Its like they cannot see that the folks that are implying that the only way to get there is "work harder" are directly benefitting from that extra hard work.

Then why do so many broken down poor people die young? It is like they don't want to retire because life is so good.

I foresee a picture if the explosion on a new inspirational poster with a cutesy saying about learning more from your failures than your successes forthcoming in Elons office.

""More things were successful than in the previous test, including some new capabilities that were significant," said Carissa Christensen, CEO of space analytics firm BryceTech.
"There's not money and patience for unlimited tests, but for a vehicle that is so different and so big, two, three, four, five tests is not excessive," Christensen said.
At roughly 43 miles (70 km) in altitude, the rocket system executed the crucial maneuver to separate the two stages - something it failed to do in the last test - with the Super Heavy booster intended to plunge into Gulf of Mexico waters while the core Starship booster blasts further to space using its own engines."

Gutter said, "Shea Kuykendall was 17 of 25 for 222 yards and Caden Meis had 16 carries for 89 yards and a TD in the loss - which were improvements from their previous game against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks".

Elon Musk called Tesla's Sweden strike 'insane' — now it's spreading to Denmark
Tesla is embroiled in a growing battle with unions in Europe after the wave of strikes impacting the company in Sweden spread to Denmark.
Danish dockworkers are refusing to unload the US electric car giant's vehicles in solidarity with Swedish Tesla workers, whose demands for better wages and benefits have sparked widespread strikes dubbed "insane" by Tesla boss Elon Musk.
"Like the companies, the trade union movement is global in the fight to protect workers," said Jan Villadsen, the chair of Danish labor union 3F, in a statement to Reuters.
The strike will only affect cars meant for the Swedish market, where workers are striking to try and force a collective agreement on wages and benefits for the 120 employees who work at Tesla's service facilities in the country.
Nine other Swedish unions have joined the strike in solidarity, with dockworkers refusing to unload Tesla's cars at ports and electricians refusing to repair the company's charging stations.
The Swedish postal service also joined the strike in November, meaning that for a time new Tesla owners in the country weren't able to receive their license plates or register their cars, a move that Musk called "insane" in a post on X.

Yeah, maybe we need to cool the fuck down on things that make Elon feel like he stands on equal footing with lower-case-d-democratic governments.
