eh, doesn't bother me any
I feel like it’s a slap to the face of both programs and the sport generally. This should be about celebrating the privilege of being a pantheon guy at TWO pantheon programs

of all the things over the last 5 years that have been a slap in the face to the sport.....a guy not wanting to pick between 2 blue bloods he coached at ranks pretty low on the chart for me

he should be able to cheer for just a good, competitive game…and not make it about him
i guess i think about it like attending the Legends of the Phog game. the final score didn’t really matter

In fact, if he did come, I would think it was a "look-at-me" move.
I get it. He loves both schools. Roy Williams has nothing to do with this KU vs UNC matchup. There is zero reason he should feel obligated to be there.
Bill Self, who referred to himself as “an average basketball player from Oklahoma” during his 2017 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame induction speech, soon will be recognized as Kansas’ most accomplished basketball coach of all time.
The 61-year-old Larry Brown/Eddie Sutton/Leonard Hamilton disciple with a 589-143 record in 22 seasons at KU is one victory shy of Phog Allen’s total of 590 victories entering Friday’s nonconference clash against North Carolina…

It's only "about him" because someone sought him out, asked him a question and then fed the exchange to us via social media. Pretty sure that Roy Williams didn't go out of his way to inject himself into this whatsoever.
Making it "about him" would have been him attending the game and forcing it to be a thing discussed throughout the matchup.

sooo
when it's all said and done
what can we name after Self?
Considering the gym's already named after Phog, and the court's already named after James...

What a great guy! We are so lucky! (And to think, we could have had Quin Snyder...)
Considering the gym's already named after Phog, and the court's already named after James...
In the center of the grass in front of Allen, create a circular fountain with a spout for every season Bill Self coached, etch the results of the season in the outer stone where that particular spout shoots out water, in the center is a Bill Self statue. Then rename Sunnyside Ave to Bill Self Ave - it connects with Naismith Drive.
Take down the stupid barriers and new TVs that took seats out of AFH.
Remove all the Chipotle scrap metal stuff in the corridors of AFH.
Remake the animations from the old scoreboard digitally and play them during games on the new(ish) scoreboard.
Get the branding off the score board.
Put the 2018 back on the Final Four banner.
Nice to haves:
Make major restrictions on NIL and bring back college basketball.
