Devon
Re: Devon
I think he's my favorite player on this team. We haven't had a guard that defends like him since '08. Gets loose balls, drives to pass, finishes really well.
Needs to get better at throwing the lob.
Are there any guards his size in the NBA right now without a jumper? There used to be a bunch of those types of dudes, but since the analytic revolution brought to light the importance of the three-ball, the Brevin Knights and Andre Millers and Jacque Vaughns have disappeared. Rondo I guess?

Not a ton that start, but there are plenty on rosters.Mjl wrote: ↑Sun Nov 25, 2018 12:20 am

Patrick Beverly thrives on defense and then is very selective and picks his spots on offense....Elfrid Payton isn't a great shooter....Westbrook isn't a good outside shooter, but he's bigger than dotson....Malcolm Brogdon, but he might be a little bigger too.
I could keep going, but if TJ McConnell is on a team then Dotson absolutely has a chance to make some money in the NBA.
Re: Devon
Agreed.
And he's doing it in a very un-freshman like way. He's fairly composed, he plays defense, and he doesn't try to do too much offensively....he's impacting the game in little ways that don't show up in a stat sheet, and that's something that usually takes time to do, especially as a PG under bill self.
Very impressed. Performance to expectation wise he's far exceeded anything I imagined. He is better than advertised..and that's rare for a freshman. Usually it's the exact opposite.
Re: Devon
At least once each past couple games, Dotson has shown an elite ability to collect a ball in the open court and change directions in traffic.
Most dudes might loose the handle or run into the defender or even just have to stop and collect himself, but Dotson makes the quick adjustment and it’s off to the races.

Re: Devon
Dotson is much more a 1-2 year player than 3-4 year player. Not sure what you guys aren't seeing. I'd entertain an argument that he's already the best player on this year's team.
Re: Devon
He's great.
Please entertain your argument.
He's averaging 10 points a game and 2 assists.
Dedric is averaging a double double, Udoka is shooting 68% from the field at 14 points a game and Vick is shooting 57% from the field and 58% from 3 while averaging the same amount of steals as Dotson.
But but the intangibles!

Re: Devon
He's not the best player on this team. He's probably not even top 3.
His size and lack of shooting really make me doubt he is a 1-2 year player if he wants to make the safest decision for his future. Plenty of players leave when they probably shouldn't so he could go that route...that's basically what Trevon Duval from Duke decided to do. Left after 1 year and went undrafted .

Re: Devon
Yeah he just can't leave yet. I do think he has the potential to be a great 3 year player here. Once that shot improves, he'll be tough to stop. But he has to shoot more consistently from 3 to make the jump. But as someone either here or on twitter said, if TJ McConnell has a job in the NBA, then you think Dot definitely has the chance to get there.

LOL. He's one of 2 players that Self nearly refuses to take off the court.

He's averaging exactly 1 make and 2 3 point attempts per game. That's what this team needs from him.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 26, 2018 2:31 pm Yeah he just can't leave yet. It will increase to 3 next season, if he's here.
