Doesn't rule out a comeback, but sounds like he's gone.

Also, it needs to be remembered that players can now sign NCAA-approved agents to help out during the process and still come back to NCAAB.

I’m actually a little shocked by this. He’s not ready for the NBA. Will probably get a look in the 2nd round though

I'd be really curious about what NBA feedback he gets and how his workouts/combine goes.

How many players came into programs super-highly regarded, didn't perform worth a damn, left after one year, and still had legit NBA careers?

Jrue Holiday definitely.
Could argue Drummond, if you consider 10 and 7.5 not performing.
Steven Adams.

I can't think of any others.

Oof.
I just don't see it -- still seems like he's riding what people thought of him before he played high level competition.
Hope he returns but from that statement, doesn't sound like it, which is a bummer because I wanted to see him play well here.

Oh Jesus, someone talk some sense into this kid. He's not even close to ready.

Those guys underwhelmed statistically but still looked like NBA players.

Grimes was so physically underwhelming. I just can't see him wowing anybody in an individual workout...let alone having a legit NBA career.

Bad decision.

Now go get RJ Hampton.

I’d be surprised if Grimes or Lawson get drafted.

It's quite crazy (sad, actually), because Quentin doesn't look super athletic, has no feel for the game, and doesn't shoot well.

I think the real Q is in there somewhere, but we just haven't seen it. He can gain back what he lost this year by coming back.

It's sad because he could develop into a really good player. Do these guys not watch people like Josh Selby? Do they not learn anything from these guys who make these terrible decisions? They are surrounded by the best possible people to help prepare them for the next level -- have some patience. He's not going to get the people around him that he needs if he goes pro now.

Selby's not the right guy to cite. He was drafted, got a 2 year contract and was on an NBA roster for about 1.25 seasons.

That's way more than so many can say. That could very well be more than Grimes will be able to say.

Selby could have become so much more if he was just a little patient. Morris twins had patience and look where they are now.

Just saying, if you want to deter Q, don't cite Selby.

(although, I don't know that I'd agree that Selby had a long NBA career in front of him if he would have stayed at KU, he might have squeezed all the juice he could out of his gifts)

Well who knows. I think Diallo is the only guy who left in a (kind of) similar situation who has had some success in the NBA. Obviously Diallo didn't play nearly as much a Q did. I just think it's a bad decision that he will most likely regret. I guess he could probably play in Russia, right?

I don't disagree. Time will tell.

I think if Grimes scrapes out what Selby did in the NBA, that might be as good as he can hope for.

He's no longer chasing lottery. His new goal should be to play a single minute in the NBA.

I mean we always frame these conversations in the manner that is going to maximize a player's career especially in terms of earning potential.

After one season, Grimes doesn't look like an NBA player. He really didn't look like a high level Euro player.

At what point should the conversation be, man, you might want to stay in school, get a degree and really try to have fun playing 4 years of college ball?

If there is an NBA player in there, we didn't even get a glimpse of it.
