Those old-school helmets were about like putting half of a plastic Easter egg shell on your head. Amazing there weren’t more severe head injuries back in the day.

Lanier had that particularly intimidating looking helmet with the ridge going down the middle.

Finally watched part of this - just fantastic.
I sent the link to my brother in law who I'm sure as a kid was huddled around a little black-and-white TV in his home in rural Minnesota.
