If you caught that, then you really didn't miss anything other than the typical bullshit pat on the back and grandstanding that most State of the Unions are.
I'm sure others can elaborate more for you but that's pretty much all I get out of most State of the Union addresses.

The handshake snub happened before the paper tearing.

It was better than his usual stuff (which I know isn't saying much). He stayed away from impeachment talk. He mostly told the truth.

The most cringe worthy moment to me was bringing in the soldier's family who was killed. I know this isn't that unusual, but I felt so bad for the teenager who clearly was distraught that his mom was crying. The mom seemed appreciative and happy to be there to be recognized for her husband's sacrifice, which is why she agreed I'm sure, but it felt a little bit like exploiting the armed forces for political purposes. I don't agree with using the sacrifice of our soldiers for stuff that like.

I couldn't tell if Rush was truly surprised or was just bad at acting? I thought it was mentioned before the SOTU started that it was going to happen?

Can someone explain why some of the Dems didn't clap or stand when they gave that girl the scholarship?

Pelosi has the weirdest mannerisms. Like she's chewing on her dentures?

Pence is creepy.

Grimace Pelosi has symptoms of somebody hopped up on uppers of some sort. The chewing and fidgeting are what you see in people who abuse Ritalin or other non prescription forms of speed. All of the bad plastic surgery doesn’t help, I’m sure.

You missed awarding Rush Limbaugh the highest award in the U.S. for relentlessly promoting virulent racism and misogyny, the Medal of Freedom. I turned it off after that.

Everyone you disagree with is racist and/or misogynist.

Jim Acosta taking heat for similar comments. Was asked by a person of color who knows and works with Rush to provide a list of examples.....maybe you have a list ready?

I'm no Rush Limbaugh fan by any means. Don't think I've ever even listened to a single minute of his show because I was born in a time where I can listen to CDs or Bluetooth music so I don't do talk radio. So I'm curious if you have anything to back your claims up?

I'm hopeful that you weren't 1 of the liberals who were celebrating his cancer diagnosis?

An analyst said the bar was so low on Trump's performance that his handlers were hoping America came away with the confidence that Trump could use both a knife and a fork.

Supposedly he wanted to add "witch hunt" in order to properly chum the waters for his base, but someone smartly just told him to read the teleprompter. He didn't even do that well. Just a terrible performance.

Vanity Fair has an article about Trump's Teleprompter man:

One of the most important people in Donald Trump’s life whom you’ve probably never heard of is “Gabe.” The reason a lot of people don’t know who he is, is that there is an unofficial protection racket set up to keep Gabe’s name out of the press. Multiple well-known Trumpworld personalities chided us throughout the course of our reporting on Gabe, even for some of our more mundane questions, such as, “What’s his last name?”

For what it’s worth, it’s Perez. And in a certain respect, Gabe has mastered the art of controlling Trump’s public statements. The president is known for his rambling asides, and that is where Gabe shines. Those who would speak with us about him said Gabe has an uncanny ability to edit scrolling teleprompter text in a way that fits seamlessly with Trump’s unpredictable speaking style. He knows when to pause. He can follow Trump’s stream of consciousness effectively enough to get boss right back on track, even after a not-uncommon 10-minute deviation. During the campaign, these skills were an invaluable asset.

The intense hypocrisy of Trump’s reliance on Gabe was obvious. He’d spent years suggesting that Barack Obama was incapable of delivering a speech without reading from prepared remarks. And if Trump could do so, even during a campaign defined by his freewheeling rants, it was probably better for everyone if he himself didn’t come up with his own public remarks.

ETA: My hard of hearing next door neighbor used to play Rush Limbaugh so loudly while in his garage that if we were in our workshop or outside, we could hear way more than we ever wanted to of Rush's racist ranting.

Trump has not yet met an institution he is unwilling to cheapen.

They are both wrong. A fine example of how America has become so divided that we are cheering on childlike behavior depending on which side of the fence you sit. Silly, all of it.

Exactly.

Which side is winning?

(My answer: neither side is winning)

The fact that there were maybe 2 issues I remember where everyone stood and applauded (not that the act of standing and applauding is what matters) says a lot. The 2 sides can't agree on even the most obvious of topics....

the saddest part: you throw a bunch of us regular people (non politicians) into a room and we'd agree on 75% of issues and would likely list many of the same things as stuff we find important.

Our political system is failing us because our politicians are no longer looking out for the people 1st....we're 2nd or 3rd on their list of what motivates their stances. And that's across the board. There are a few exceptions, but not many.

I imagine most wouldn't care nearly as much as you're hoping they would.

For once, stop with the whataboutism while trying to excuse your abject defense of Donald Trump. He honored Rush Limbaugh who has said the kinds of things about women that Speaker Pelosi takes exception to. Your hero disdained every woman in the audience and every woman watching with the formerly important honor.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex—what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."—Rush Limbaugh, referring to a Georgetown Law School student who was denied the right to speak at a congressional hearing on contraception, in which she planned to discuss a friend of hers who needed contraception to prevent the growth of cysts, February 29, 2012.

"A Georgetown coed told Nancy Pelosi's hearing that the women in her law school program are having so much sex they're going broke, so you and I should have to pay for their birth control. So what would you call that? I called it what it is. So, I'm offering a compromise today: I will buy all of the women at Georgetown University as much aspirin to put between their knees as they want. ... So Miss Fluke and the rest of you feminazis, here's the deal. If we are going to pay for your contraceptives and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch."—Rush Limbaugh, March 1, 2012

"It doesn't look like Michelle Obama follows her own nutritionary dietary advice. And then we hear that she's out eating ribs at 1500 calories a serving with 141 grams of fat ... No, I'm trying to say that our first lady does not project the image of women that you might see on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue or of a woman Alex Rodriguez might date every six months or what have you."—Rush Limbaugh, Feb. 21, 2011

"[Obama] wouldn't have been voted president if he weren't black. Somebody asked me over the weekend why does somebody earn a lot of money have a lot of money, because she's black. It was Oprah. No, it can't be. Yes, it is. There’s a lot of guilt out there, show we're not racists, we'll make this person wealthy and big and famous and so forth ... If Obama weren't black he'd be a tour guide in Honolulu or he'd be teaching Saul Alinsky constitutional law or lecturing on it in Chicago."—Rush Limbaugh, July 6, 2010
