Hotel on/near campus
Hotel on/near campus
Just signed my daughter up for a Juniors Day event on Friday, March 6th to do a tour of KU. Looking for hotel recommendations for a hotel on or close to campus. The tour starts at 8 in the morning so I'd prefer something very close to campus.
The Oread is the only hotel I know of. Any others I can look into? Thanks in advance?

The Halcyon House, an air B&B, is right at the bottom of the hill on 10th and Ohio.

I would check out defixione's place if I were you.
My opinion on Lawrence hotels, though: Oread will disappoint you for what you pay. Don't do it. Do Eldridge instead (although I heard they lost their liquor license, no worries as you're on Mass). If you're a Marriott points guy, do TownePlace Suites and stay away from Springhill. Everything on Iowa is boring.

Looked at the Halcyon. They dont have any availability for that night.
I am only going to be there for 1 night and with my 16 year old so I dont need booze or anything (and I can always bring that myself). Still looking...

I've stayed at Springhill several times. I've always liked it. It's been a couple of years. Has Springhill gone downhill?

It needs a massive update and TLC. Just tired.
TownePlace was brand new just a couple years ago.

Wherever you end up staying, don’t forget to request an early checkin.

Having seen defix's "handiwork", it would easily be worth the price of the room.

I've stayed at the Oread once and I thought it was quite good, although the operating phrase may be "...for what you pay". The lobby bar is quite good and the 9th(?) floor outdoor bar is awesome, with great views.
Springhill was good when I stayed there a few years ago. Had a view of the river (frozen at that time) and could see a lot of bald eagles flying and also perching on the trees. Also ran into Sherron Collins at breakfast.

I usually stay at Eldridge when I am in town.
Pretty nice, and close to where I want to be.

The Oread is by far the nicest place to stay in LFK.

Same. Love the Eldridge. Can't go wrong there.

Geezer - That's kind of like saying Olive Garden is by far the nicest place to eat in Spanish Fork Utah.
Ok, it's not really like that at all but the "good" hotel choices are at a minimum in Lawrence.
twocoach - I am curious as to who will be accompanying you and your daughter, if it's just the two of you, and if you are just going to stay overnight for one night.
I say that because if your daughter knows anyone attending KU it might not be a terrible idea for her to experience an evening of dorm, sorority, apartment living.
I am a tad bit picky when it comes to hotels but for one night I could suck it up and stay pretty much anywhere.
Most recent place I stayed at in Lawrence was the Eldridge. Served it's purpose well but unfortunately due to a lack of availability I was not given a choice and had to stay at the "Extended Stay" part of the hotel. While fine, I would not recommend it (Extended Stay part of hotel) if given a choice.
