There are no Bahn Mi sammiches here.
https://www.windycornermarket.com/ makes a very good fried oyster po boy. Hope they open soon.
Cheese on a brisket sammich is an abomination.

I bet I eat more sammiches than anyone.

egg sammich damn near every day for breakfast.

my go-to deli sammich is usually just turkey, mustard, sharp cheddar, greens with Italian dressing. Can always add some onion, avocado, etc.

Good bread. I like sourdough, or some kinda whole grain something, with the most important thing just being it's fresh.

for backpacking and fishing and stuff I'll do peanut butter and walnut or pecan, maybe a little honey. I like it at ambient temp more than a deli meat sammich, which can get funky once lukewarm in a backpack all day.

One truly-delightful aspect of this work-from-home epoch is that when I make the kids grilled cheese, I get one or two for myself. Butter both sides of the bread. Diagonal cut only.

I used to go to Pumpernick's a lot back in the day. It went downhill then went away.

You just struck a chord.

My dad was a lawyer who logged long hours. He would come home at 11:30 pm and I would be studying in my room waiting for him to get home. Mom and my brothers and sister were asleep.

When he got home, he would pop his head in my room and say, “Let’s get a hot dog at Pumpernick’s.” Pumpernicks stayed open until midnight. We’d go there. Have hot dogs. Dad would have an original 3.2 Coors. Wow.

I miss that place.

Not to detract or distract from (that very warm) memory, but I'm here to say that, yes, hotdogs are sandwiches (as are, for that matter, tacos).

Every time I'm excited about a new one moving in, it quickly closes.

Failed restaurants never have just one issue, but I'm just not sure we have the population makeup to support one. Most people here just see it as a $15 sandwich and nothing else.

Corned beef/Pastrami on Rye is like a top 3 sandwich for me.

Bagel Deli off Hampden in Denver has best open-faced Rueben I’ve ever had.
