Wife and I watched this last night on a recommendation from a friend.

A movie so well scripted and an amusement park ride pace.
It is just a new way of filming, and had absolutely no slow spaces.
This single-run shot is amazing:

Highly recommended.

Yes, saw that last summer.
There are a number of long shots.
I enjoyed everything but the last five minutes or so.

Do you think that the whole process with the clues was designed to draw them out based on intelligence?

I'm trying to remember exactly - I don't remember a major clue solving process - like the Arrival or Contact - I thought they fed the audio on the radio and people called in with their stories and then they met the 'crazy' lady.

Yeah, I am working under the impression that the audio frequency, the call ins, and meeting the woman were all part of the trail.

I think I came to that conclusion because the old woman (who'd son had allegedly been abducted in the past) was chanting that strange language when they entered her home at her request. She told them to take the words, and use them when "they" come for them. He started reading them off while they were riding with the couple who were helping them, and the words put the couple into a weird trance, but had no affect on them (or the woman)..

Watched it last night, wasn't a big fan, sorry. I love movies about aliens or close encounters, but this was just kind of boring. There haven't really been any good alien abduction movies since Close Encounters of the Third Kind, except for maybe Fire in the Sky (not including Alien or Aliens since they don't take place in the present). Signs was pretty good, ending was a let down. Contact was interesting but didn't make much sense, especially the ending and was a let down. Arrival was alright, but sort of dragged on and again, was sort of a letdown.

I thought Arrival was tops.
Loved it.

Also curious why you didn't think Contact didn't make sense.

Well it's been a while since I've seen it. Maybe I just need to watch it again. Doesn't she (Jody Foster) get in this machine that aliens sent instruction on how to build it, the first one was sabotaged and blew up by the weird guy, but they had a second one on some island. I couldn't tell whether she was just having flash backs of her Dad while she was in the pod or was she actually transported somewhere in time, maybe not a place, but time? A time when her father was alive? I don't know.

Spoilers:

If I remember right, it actually wasn't her father. It was an alien race. They were in a point in time and space meeting. They thought taking on her father's form on a beach would be the most calming form for the meeting. Humans - of which she was the best fit to be the scout/messenger - were being integrated into this process of communication which even the aliens who contacted her were down the 'food chain'. They themselves had been contacted as well -- they didn't even create the machine to get them there. This would be the first initiation of many to come.

I think it was a very good mix of science and religion - as in, no matter how far/much you think you know - there is always more you don't.
