We don't really have a thread to talk about the season in general so here we go.
I went to Creighton's exhibition game last night. They are going to be really good. Tennessee beat Gonzaga in one of those unofficial scrimmages and will be a handful. What else non-KU related are people looking forward to seeing this season?

No, he just doesn't read very well.
And nobody gives a fuck about Creighton. This is a Jayhawk messageboard.

Here we go again. Illi being Illi.
What's the title of the thread? Does Creighton not have an NCAA Basketball team?
I "give a fuck" about Creighton and so does twocoach.
Did you care about the KU game on March 19 2022?
Moving on.......

I've always had a fondness for Creighton, I think it's because WSU fans used to hate them so much...and I love most things that WSU fans hate.

man, that game. Way too close.
Not sure how things would have went if they weren't down their footer, but who cares.
Either way, that game almost seemed like the archetypal early exit formula for us: a scrappy dogfight with a bad shooting team that suddenly drains a dozen from deep. One of the big factors that made last year's team a champ, rather than another upset, was having a guy who just could go get us some buckets. Thank the lord for Remy.

Creighton is going to really, really good this season and I care about all of the teams that appear good enough to be contenders when Kansas is good enough to be a contender. We all understand the motivation behind his comment and no one should be surprised by it. Expecting a toddler to act like an adult is a recipe for frustration.
There are a lot of teams to keep an eye on this season. Here's a list of early season tourneys and multi-team events:

Creighton will not be a "contender". My goodness.

Are they not a preseason top 10 team?

A PRESEASON top 10 ranking does not = a contender.

Why not? Because you say so? I and "Vegas" disagree.
Tell me which top 10 preseason teams weren't "contenders" last season. Other than Texas. Who by the way beat Kansas in one game and took us to OT in another. Right?

YOU are wrong. They have an elite big and some great guards. They will be a handful for everyone. If you remember, we did not have to play their big because he was injured the game before.

you guys aren't supposed to quote illy but holy cow what a hot take!
by that logic I guess that means North Carolina, Gonzaga, Houston, Kentucky, Kansas, Scott Drew Sucks, Duke, UCLA, and Arkansas aren't contenders either.

Let's let him believe a top 10 team isn't a contender.
You and I realize their 2nd and 4th top scorers (Kalkbrenner and Nembhard) didn't play against us.
Kaluma scored a game high 24 against us.
Alexander had 14 points and 9 assists against us.
Scheierman is a transfer from South Dakota State where he averaged 16.2 ppg, 7.8 reb, and 4.5 assists. Kid had 18 and 10 against Providence in the tournament.
Kalkbrenner averaged 13 points 7.7 reb, shot 64.4%. 13 games he scored 15 or more. 15 games he had 9 or more rebounds.
Nembhard averaged 11 a game as a Freshman. 8 games he scored 15 or more.

They are a contender because of the makeup of the tournament, certainly not a favorite.
They’ll be better than an 8 seed and an 8 seed was up 16 points in the last final.

It's not really a hot take. I don't think they will win the national title. I hesitate to say they "can't" win it, because technically anyone who makes the tournament "can" win it all, but they are not one of the 5-7 teams that I consider true contenders.
If you think there are 15, 20, or 30 contenders, that's fine too. You can consider anyone a contender that you want, but I don't have to do the same.
Creighton is not a national title caliber team imo. Their program hasn't made an elite 8 since 1941. They've only made the sweet 16 four times. Ever. Once in the last 47ish years.
Preseason rankings are rather meaningless, but there are several teams ranked worse than Creighton (at #9 btw) that I consider to be more of a contender than Creighton.
Who knew we had some many Creighton fans around here!

To me, there are favorites, which would be the top 5-7 teams and then contenders, probably top 15 teams.
Creighton could be a similar seed to us by the end of the year.
