I think he needs to resign immediately.

I also think we need to understand what was really happening here. I believe there is reporting out there on documentary evidence tying payments to the Egyptians' role in the Saudis' murder of Khashoggi (and subsequent coverup).

In case you haven't heard, the DOJ has filed additional, "superseding charges" against NJ Sen Menendez, for acting on behalf of Egypt. And it looks like they have receipts.
