Re: Dookie game
What's our head-to-head record? Haven't we won most of the recent ones?
Re: Dookie game
According to sports reference . com, Kansas Men's Basketball Head-to-Head Results, we've played Duke 14 times and we've won 6 and lost 8. We're 5-5 in the last 10 games.RockChalk2005 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 3:14 pm What's our head-to-head record? Haven't we won most of the recent ones?

Re: Dookie game
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Re: Dookie game
so how do we match up?
Their PG Foster is 6'5" so bigger than Dajuan.
seems like Flagg will be guarded by KJ
They also have a 7'2" big in Maluach but he's a freshy
I think it comes down to if we can hit shots.

Breaking news, a basketball game will come down to who makes the most baskets.

Re: Dookie game
I am seeing Duke as 2.5pt favorite.
I don't see it, but I've only watched a little bit of them so far this year. I think we match up fairly well.
Flagg can get his and they can still lose.
I am curious to see how Hunter deals with the size of their big freshman. He's got a lot of experience against bigs. I see that matchup as advantage us. Their backup big is also a freshman.
Their backcourt is (listed at) 6'5 6'5 6'7...I am more worried about Zeke handling their size (offensively) than I am DH. And also Coit. I can't imagine Self is going to trust Shak Moore in this game unless we've got foul trouble.
Proctor and Foster are not really scorers (although Proctor is their 3rd leading scorer), so DH being smaller doesn't concern me as much. Hopefully he can disrupt their offense. Maybe this helps Coit be playable against their size too?
I am concerned about KJ. Flagg is not only a load for him to worry about defensively, he also presents some serious size and athleticism on defense. KJ has struggled scoring against size historically. If KJ is a dud on offense then that'll mean that Storr and Griffen are going to need to do more (scoring wise) than they have so far this season.
Zeke and HD are our only guys averaging double figures so far this year. It'll be interesting to see who steps up scoring wise for this game.
This will be a great measuring stick for us. We need our vets to be solid. And we need the new guys to prove they belong. UNC was a start, but that's in AFH. Hopefully our highly paid players wait until after tomorrow to party it up in Vegas. Thats another aspect of this nowadays. Being mature on the road or in these neutral site games where there is a day or two of freedom.

Re: Dookie game
we need Mualach away from the basket. He's damn good but is prone to foul and chase blocks. When he's out their defense is average at best.
Need to run Koeppel off the 3 pt line and not let him get heated up.
Flagg is gonna get his, but thats ok.
Their offense, at this point anyway, is pretty much 1 on 1, and get it to Flagg or let Kneupple (or whatever his name is) shoot late in the clock. Not a ton of rotation or swing passes from the little I've seen. Mainly direct screens and iso action with Mualach as clean up.

Just Ledoux it
Re: Dookie game
Duke's big freshman, Khaman Maluach, doesn't play much. In their five games, he has played 16, 13, 23, 22 and 18 minutes.
Duke's guard rotation, as you said, is the key matchup. Flagg, Knueppel, Proctor and Foster are all a handful. Proctor is shooting 45% from 3 and Knueppel is shooting 40% so neither can be allowed to be left wide open.

Re: Dookie game
KJ needs to watch tape of Svi boxing out Bagley.
I'd love for Diggy to get hot, but so far he's matched up better against mid major opponents than P5s.
I could see Dajuan playing like 35+, unless the aforesaid foul trouble. Still not sure what we have in Shak.
We've got the experience - they start 3 freshmen! - and we got Self plus a week to prep. They just played Friday night, and beat a ranked AZ team.
and I mean just...holy shit this roster is just straight BofH bait:

Kenpom has Duke #4 and KU #9. So the 2.5pt line makes sense based on that.

Re: Dookie game
I take no solace from the insult that we are an underdog tonight, from the fact that N Carolina is an underdog to Auburn tonight, also.

we are a top team in november.
they are a top team in november.
somebody is gonna win.
somebody is gonna lose.
a win or a loss in november is meaningless

Re: Dookie game
Duke is the #1 defense (per kenpom) in the country.
How our guys deal with their pressure and length will be interesting to see. Should give us an idea if we are a contender or pretender.
Big moment for HD in my opinion. He hasn't always come up BIG in the big moments. He did against UNC.
Learning to win these big time matchups is new for Zeke and Storr. Excluding Rylan from that due to his final four appearance. Can Zeke and Storr handle the moment? I think Zeke can. I still don't have a good feel for what Storr will do from night to night.
