But I think Self wanted to, and/or would have been fine with settling on that style.

So, what is the actual scholarship situation right now? Is Martin in the Lightfoot category where his doesn't count? Press releases today say Curry signed an NIL and Martin signed a financial aid agreement.

I saw Martin averaged 25 a game, but didn’t realize it was shooting 58% from the field and 45% from 3 on 110 attempts...!!!

He’s a scorer for sure. Level of ball is obviously different but the guy has made 9 3s in a game before. That’s impressive no matter the level. He’ll be the backup 5.

The backup 5 who completely opens up the offense.

Sorry but if KU were to land an Embiid and a Marcus Morris, they'd play two bigs.

Let's also put it this way.
If Cam Martin shows up and is as good as Dirk Nowitski you'll see lineups with both him and DMac in.

(Marcus is probably the closest thing to a prototype “fourth” guy for four-out as you’ll find, absent a bit more bounce. So this is sort of like saying if KU were to land a Frank Mason and a Devonte Graham, they’d play two point guards.)

If Cam is as good as Dirk offensively, and can switch on a guard defensively, then hell yeah let’s play him at the 4.

(But just realistically, if he was that player, he woulda been a lotto pick 2 years ago, rather than a D2 transfer...)

Self isn't going to just run a strict system - he'll do things around the players he has.
He may play a lot of half court sets with 4 on the perimeter but that's not stopping a Marcus Morris type from posting up or playing give and go's around screens to the bucket.
He may try to recruit to a more perimeter based system but if both the Mobley brothers decided to transfer to KU right now, Self wouldn't go, "sorry fellas, logjammed at bigs, I can't see any way you guys will get the minutes".

I suppose that's one way to look at it.

Another way is that one of the most valid Self criticisms is that he's pretty goddamn slow to move off a system.

And also the other Mobley isn't very good at all. As happens, we got sucker-punched.

10 and 7 with 43% from 3. It's not like he was some scrub.

Martin and Dave can play together on offense. If the other team is playing two slow bigs, we may see them in the game together.

Marcus adapted his game along with the game changing at both nba and college level. There’s no way we’d run the same stuff now in 2021 if we had a Marcus clone that we did in 2010, even 2011.

Marcus at the 4 and 5 in small ball would be a NPOY candidate.

He was damn close to it before we even knew what to do with guys like that. Plug him into Josh Jackson's role on that team and he'd get 10/game alone on uncontested 15-footers

I think I still have NCAA eligibility. I might be the tallest guard.
