Ain't No Seats Podcast was just talking about how Zuby has a skill that no one has seen outside of practice...apparently the dude can really shoot the ball...they were calling him a more athletic Luke May.

I think the value of guys playing together for a long time (more than a year) is forgotten this time of year.

I think its forgotten all year...until the announcers talk about it as a key to success among the final four teams....

its very underrated in the era of new shiny things and social media attention spans.

So where’s this thread stand?

Returning scholarship players:
Dajuan
KJ

Incoming freshmen:
Elmarko
Johnson
Marcus Adams
McDowell

Transfers:
Timberlake
Arterio
Hunter

So we have like, 3 available scholarships?

Mgbako and Zuby ;)
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

I’d take em!

So who’s the last scholly go to?

Another transfer? Any uncommitted freshies left? Cuffe?

I’d say maybe even just give it to a walk on, but that sorta sitch seems particularly unlikely considering we’re gonna be down a scholly anyway

And what’s the details of a player entering the portal then returning to the original school?

Watch the ncaa pull some technicality out of their ass outta nowhere and say Zuby has to sit out a year…

I guess a dark horse candidate for that last scholly would be Kevin.

On one hand, it’s be hard to do better than that

but on the other, 3+ non-scorers in the starting lineup might be last year’s issues all over again.

Noticed today that Torvik has updated offseason projections.

KU #1, Tennessee #2, pretty big gap between #2 and #3. Also projects KU at #2 offensively, #4 defensively. Really strong, especially with room to still improve the roster. Wide error bars at this point, obviously, but a fun analytics-driven pulse check.

I wonder how he adjusts/hypothesizes for freshmen.
Usually both TRank and Kenpom aren't very worthwhile until about 10 games in.

I don't understand how our defense would be projected to be that good

I know. Who knows. One of my buddies who lives in Austin and is a pretty big KU booster heard it's IU. He has 4 season ticket seats 4 rows behind the KU bench. Makes much more than I do...lol

My sources say he is coming here for free.

Not extremely predictive yet, for sure, but still more worthwhile than talking heads or media rankings. You can dig into the numbers a bit and see how the new guys are being projected. Obviously speculative, but stuff like 16% of total minutes for Dickinson at 120 ORtg, 13% for Jackson at 108, 3% for Marcus Adams at 102, and so on. Curious how things shift if/when they add Mgbako—there's a tool in there that adds any recruit/transfer into the mix, but I wonder if it changes with the actual addition.
