#1 Defense. Ranking has validated what we have been viewing. Enjoy the rest of yours this season. Rock Chalk.

I don't get the rankings of almost any team between 7-20.

I know it's the tournament, but I feel about as confident as ever in our road to Final Four weekend.

People gonna hate this comparison, but this years team is very similar to Virginia last year. Defense is top notch, offense can be sketchy. But defense is going to carry the team.

Top 10 in both is a magic indicator for national champions iirc.

Don’t know, that article didn’t point to it, and would seem it might have thought of that scenario.
Just happy to be extrapolating data this way this year as opposed to last year. That one year without real final four aspirations was too many.

Indeed. We are a spoiled bunch. Love it. Now we need another title.

Top 10 in both is a magic indicator for national champions iirc.
Dook and SDSU are both also top 10 in both categories.

And good chance the national champion is 1 of those 3 teams.

I think the true statement (now) is that no national champ has been outside of Top 20 in both categories.

Sounds about right.
I was thinking it was something like 70% of the national champs in the last 20 or so years were top 10 in both.

Syracuse in 03 and UConn in 11 are the only two team to win with both outside the top 10. Most champions finished the year Top 5 in both, let alone Top 10.
UConn in 14, Florida's second title, and Carolina in 05 were the only other winners with only one of their rankings in the Top 10.

What I'd be more interested in seeing is where they were ranked just prior to the start of the tourney.
The thing about that stat is, if you win it all, you get a pretty big bump in Kenpom, because you just won 4-5 games against elite teams. In a way, it's a bit of self-fulfilling prophecy, in that a team that just beat two top 5 teams (final four games), a top 10 team (E8) and a top 25 team (S16) is going to surge up the rankings.

Exactly. But, that would require a $19.99 KenPom subscription, and I'm not about to do that when I can just get the info from Doyel for free on here.
